" I’m fast coming to the conclusion that Neil Ferguson will need to be put up against a wall and shot when this madness finally concludes. He will have been personally responsible for the impoverishment of millions, maybe tens of millions of people, including the deaths of all those who will die as a result, either from diseases caused by poverty, or suicide. Plus the misery caused by mass unemployment and economic depression. The government have acted pretty much on his advice alone and if it proves to one of the most egregious cases of scientific over-reach ever, he needs to pay the price.
The trouble is that if this does prove to be a f*ckup of immense proportions, its so big that no-one in power will be able ever admit it, and the whole thing will be deep sixed, not least because the MSM (Main Stream Media) are balls deep in the whole thing too, and thus will have no incentive to expose their own role in the catastrophe. I am hoping to get swamp city finished as long as Boris doesn’t throw me anymore curve balls. Only 2 of us on site. Got other work to go to as long as we get get pipe shingle.
My personal thoughts are if you can work you should. Furlough is supposed to be a joint decision. If you are unable to work safely then you have no choice. Child care has become a major issue with the schools closed, I guess you have to balance the circumstances as to what is the right think to do. My mate has empty buildings and the maintenance guy is refusing to come to work as he wants to take 80% and stay home. For some this has become a new welfare benefit right which is going to cause a few issues.
At the moment, I am glad I don’t need to make this decisions as I no longer employ 35!!

I have a feeling this may have some truth. As for who is to blame, has Neil Ferguson been single handed responsible for the decision to close down Europe and rather a lot of the rest of the world and get governments worldwide to print money that is beyond fairy tale thinking. Surely there must be others in on this too!

It will be really interesting to follow this in a couple of years when the data is available to describe "what really happened".
Unfortunately, the required antibody test to confirm someone "had" the virus (and recovered) does not yet exist, so the theory (to date) is impossible to test.
By its very nature, modeling is based on a bunch of assumptions and data believed to be correct at the time the model is run. As more/better data becomes available, the same model will produce different results. By not allowing his peers to review his work, there is little reason to think his model is better than anyone elses.

As Ferguson has a track record of massively over exaggerating it would have been nice if the press had caveated his predictions with this but instead they went full bore that 500,000 will die and panicked the government into the shutdown before they were ready and before then rest of the scientists seemed to think was the right time. I think the press and social media have as much to answer for as Ferguson if it does prove to have been over hyped. Hope it has been though.
