The thing with China is, two months ago they welded peoples doors closed and fed them through their windows. Two months later they are hopefully through the worst.

We are not thst sort of place and I fear this will go on and on for months and months

Reference work, people have been buying stuff, its difficult to know where we are in a few weeks let alone months.

I understand they have 30,000 troops in readiness and on standby for deployment at a moments notice .... people need to take notice of what they are being asked to comply with and stop being so ****ing selfish
I've spent the day reading (and have shared some of it - peeing down here today) ... everyone needs to get with the program .... or it will go on for months and months .. after/beyond the currently anticipated months and months
IMHDO income measures will be set in place tomorrow ... before lock down starts

A lot comes through Euro, most of the odd ball stuff goes for excitable money. Have a feeling that had been shown before on the old forum for some reason??.....not for sale, but just put up out of interest?..... good find though, pass there yard quite regularly.

I was working on the side of an hgv test route yesterday watching all the learner lorries go past not to far from Aldershot
All seemed to be military personnel
Don't know if this is just a regular thing or they are quickly putting loads of squaddies through hgv tests to help

Watched that this morning, certainly hits the message home to me. So many are saying oh it won’t affect me but they could carry the virus without really having any major symptoms but able to pass it to those it would severely affect. I am self isolating as much as I can, going out for a walk early morning and staying well clear of anyone I see, I do have reduced immunity and don’t really fancy my chances if I did catch it. Still not many cases noted locally but not many getting tested so it’s a lottery really.

Fastest way to distribute the funds Shaun ..... was listening to a debate about it this morning ... made sense .... this is looking more and more likely to be a long haul

" Natural immunity - at least two years away
The UK's short-term strategy is to drive down cases as much as possible to prevent hospitals being overwhelmed - when you run out of intensive care beds then deaths spike.

Once cases are suppressed, it may allow some measures to be lifted for a while - until cases rise and another round of restrictions are needed.

When this might be is uncertain. The UK's chief scientific advisor, Sir Patrick Vallance, said "putting absolute timelines on things is not possible".

Doing this could, unintentionally, lead to herd immunity as more and more people were infected.

But this could take years to build up, according to Prof Neil Ferguson from Imperial College London: "We're talking about suppressing transmission at a level whereby, hopefully, only a very small fraction of the country will be infected.

"So eventually, if we continued this for two-plus years, maybe a sufficient fraction of the country at that point might have been infected to give some degree of community protection."

But there is a question mark over whether this immunity will last. Other coronaviruses, which cause common cold symptoms, lead to a very weak immune response and people can catch the same bug multiple times in their lifetime.

There are essentially three ways out of this mess.

• vaccination
• enough people develop immunity through infection
• or permanently change our behaviour/society

Each of these routes would reduce the ability of the virus to spread.

Vaccines - at least 12-18 months away
A vaccine should give someone immunity so they do not become sick if they are exposed.

Immunise enough people, about 60% of the population, and the virus cannot cause outbreaks - the concept known as herd immunity.

The first person was given an experimental vaccine in the US this week after researchers were allowed to skip the usual rules of performing animal tests first.

Vaccine research is taking place at unprecedented speed, but there is no guarantee it will be successful and will require immunisation on a global scale.

The best guess is a vaccine could still be 12 to 18-months away if everything goes smoothly. That is a long time to wait when facing unprecedented social restrictions during peacetime.

highly likely, I'd imagine .... although truck drivers will be 'front line' workers, it won't stop 'em getting ill and 'll need to have replacements for them ...
there's also lots of HGV drivers who just stopped because of all the bollox and hoops ..... dare say DVLA could trawl them all up in an emergency ... they ain't likely to have forgotten how, eh?

was a nurse on the radio phone in this morning, in tears .. just come off a 14 hr shift and gone to get some food from her local supermarket ... stripped fkn bare ..... can understand her frustration

As I have been saying before. Borders closing, money printing, social restrictions. Are we really in the loop of what is going on?

Just checked with my son who was in the Royal Engineers. He was training as a mechanic, got his HGV before he was 21 as armed forces are allowed to drive younger than civilians. Building trade related trades not driver trained.

We know whats going on but its the ramifications of it all. The world in which we live needs paper with numbers on been passed around...if that stops everything stops....all thtas left is exchange of services between each other and that cant be milked.
