Towing Capacity ?Toyota champ? Toyota obviously spotting a gap in the market.
Real shame it's only 2wd but still handy looking setup for reasonable money

Towing Capacity ?
Information is a little thin on the ground, unladen weights anywhere from 2.2t to 2.8t all with 1t payload so some would need downplating to stay under 3.5t.Toyota champ? Toyota obviously spotting a gap in the market.

3.5t towing on a 2wdI think the 4x4 is in development

Probably under powered too 150bhp less than 400nmNot really much difference to a normal Hilux or ranger as they are only red on the road. And iveco dailys and Isuzu grafter are available as single rear wheel 7t train weight

No one has ever wanted less power but its certainly not everything. It is only a 6t train weight so probably not to bad.
I presume its the old 2.4 Hilux engine which I covered thousands of miles towing 3.5t. but they did seem a bit random as I know people have had a variety of experiences with the same engine.
I also think it depends on expectations, I use to tow 3.5t with a 100hp mark2 ranger and was fine, and have towed plenty with a 300tdi defender which was only 111hp.

I happily jump between the D4 3.0SDV6 (250bhp) and the Defender 110HD 2.2(122bhp) with the same trailers with no issue. There are times when I specifically chose the 110- mainly if the trailer is 'full full' or I know it will be unbalanced. Its probably in my head but as good as the D4 is the Defender just seems a fraction more in charge.
Not saying I'm not going to get it mapped to about 160 bhp like my old 2.4 110- the best tow truck I've had.
I find the 2.0 in the new shape ranger (210bhp 500nm) just isn't cut out for towing, not sure if it's the crappy 4wd system but it bogs down if your trying to turn and pull out at a junction. Might try selecting 2wd instead of it wanting to be in 4a in towing mode, never really had the issue with the older 3.2 and that was before it was remapped, after it was way betterWhilst no one would wish for less I think anyone even the most experienced driver can get a bit carried away with to much power at their disposal.
The 150hp 2.4 Hilux I had easily had enough power to get you into trouble with a trailer on the back. And at the end of the day, it doesn't matter how much go you have in a pickup the go far exceeds the stop you have available. I don't think I have driven anything that wouldn't lock the wheels up with 3.5t hanging off the back.
Many years ago (20+) when I was younger and even stupider than now, I owned one of the old Cherokee Jeeps. 4.0l straight 6 Auto box RWD unless 4wd engaged. Stupid choice financially but great fun. Would spin out on any corner or roundabout without much provocation, but my Oh My it used to tow very nicely! Stupidly small petrol tank and average of 15mpg (less when towing) resulted in less range than an electric car. Tugged a lot better than the LPG V8 110s I used to drive on Balloon Retrieve I still say a well tuned TD5 has to be the one of the best options for anyone that wants to avoid Euro 5/6 bollocks. Have a photo somewhere.Whilst no one would wish for less I think anyone even the most experienced driver can get a bit carried away with to much power at their disposal.

Mines v6 rok but I leave mine in 2 whilst towing not had any hassles. Time or two needed 4 but that was for there reasons...places possibly shouldn't have beenI find the 2.0 in the new shape ranger (210bhp 500nm) just isn't cut out for towing, not sure if it's the crappy 4wd system but it bogs down if your trying to turn and pull out at a junction. I had a 2.0 21 plate ranger and didn't rate it at all for towing. 200 odd bhp but felt geared wrong and too flimsy.I find the 2.0 in the new shape ranger (210bhp 500nm) just isn't cut out for towing, not sure if it's the crappy 4wd system but it bogs down if your trying to turn and pull out at a junction. No replacement for displacement...was same with discos in 2.0L just didn't have the same umphThe 3.2 is a tractor. Manual box in mine, less to go wrong.
I hardly ever seem to spool up the turbo even when towing. Ample power between 1-2k.No replacement for displacement...was same with discos in 2.0L just didn't have the same umph

According to Grenadier the new commercial complies with both VAT and BiKOooh. Looking forward to your reviews on this. They do seem to be well liked for towing on the auto boxes. I didnt know the commercial was out yet. Domyou get the VAT on it and avoid the BIK?
Yep finally...talk about missed a trick...I know of at least two companies that cancelled Initial orders.According to Grenadier the new commercial complies with both VAT and BiK
The original “Utility” version did not and I suspect cost them rather a lot in sales.
Got to be a better bet than a defender commercial. Carl Hartley says he has 3 commercials as they need 2 to be working. Not sure that he actually needs 4.
