Which suitcase generator have you got? Would you recommend?
I'm thinking maybe one of the tiny ones and a diesel heater would be worth keeping in the garage.
Mine is discontinued...
This looks the closest but slightly better as mines only 2..8kw.
Battery died so binned it off and just use whatever 12v I e got handy or it's got pull start anyway. Apart from that it's a handy thing and keep a can of aspen type stuff and good for years.

I've got my starlink and WiFi on ups so that's for a few hours then just bang into Genny .
New power pack is another setting to bow but that's technically works...🤭 But I keep it handy

A power pack that's worthwhile is significantly more expensive, and is time limited, atleast a gennie can be filled up with petrol from wherever
Exactly...they have their place and getting better all the time...but come Armageddon the hum of little gennies will be noticeable 🙃

I do fear you've not chosen the best time of year to buy one tho ..😑

Sorry

Obviously money no object of get a honda...but at least twice if not three times the price. For something you don't intend to use everyday this does me. And saved our bacon and mates over the valley a few times.
It’s the Hyundai I keep coming back to for value. As you say . Leave full of Aspen and should be reliable

It’s not just the engine that will be cheap though, it’s the alternator also.

Old Lister Petter for me for end of the world- could soon knock up a soundproofed box for it with a super long run diesel tank, and it’ll burn just about anything too.

Won't be pure sine though...but valid point.
Horses for courses if you ain't got a big garage or since these will literally fit in a cupboard

still toying with a PTO one for at my second yard/shed. But for home I need something that’s as quiet as possible, and at work noise isn’t an issue as much, but it’s runnng a lot of sensitive electrical gear so needs to be clean.
I think a large UPS / battery system might work for office with the generator charging the battery would work, but I am worried that people who don’t understand load (literally everyone else) will try using the kettle/coffee machine /air con/ fan heater etc and f**k s**t up. Not that long ago I found someone plugging a portable 3kw air con unit into a gang plug that was running off a 250 watt UPS and then wondering why things kept not working. General public do not understand much.

next time I build anything I will be splitting the power circuits up so essential low draw stuff can be on it’s own distribution board with a changeover.

6kva kubota I picked up earlier this year.
I doubt its done 100 hours, I paid 500 quid for it.
I strongly suspect the enclosure was built by the guy I fit them for now, but sometime in the early 90s. Originally a 2 sided enclosure with a roof as installed in a corner, I built up the other sides using panels from the scrap pile, and painted it with left over touch up paints (needs some more, clearly).
Had it running, tested and serviced 10 minutes after getting it back home, very simple machine.
