Yeah there a quite a few air admittance valves. I'm hoping that this means the levels change by over the diameter of the pipe so we only have to drain a few hundred meters. Not the whole 3 kilometers.
I had a job babysitting a sewer bypass. My job was simply to be there and turn the pumps on as required.
You very quickly learnt when the flushing started. 0600~0800 and 2100~2300, the pumps would run continuously. Early in the morning it'd be 10min per hour.

If you can do the job after midnight, you'll find the flow a lot less

This isn't sewage. This is anti freeze contaminated surface water. It's fed by 3 submersible pumps about 2 meters high and 1m diameter. When fully running I think they can move nearly 1000l a second.

Would have been ideal to do it a month or more ago I guess, when there was definitely no antifreeze and even more definitely no surface water!
Where does all of the contaminated water end up, and how do they ‘clean’ it?

If it's what I suspect ...de icing hasnt started yet has it? Or sods law you can't start till it does 🫣

There is so much deicer floating around that due to the dry weather any water captured in lakes currently has a really high percentage in it. As it rains more the ratios will improve and different pipes will be used.
This pipe currently moves water between two lakes. To allow the sewage treatment plants to process the water slowly.
It would have been ideal to do it over the summer but it has taken me over 2 months to get to this stage. Between temporary work designs a ground penetrating radar and getting rams approved.
