it was a pita arse for me getting my 8t moved for 10y, so I used to use the 3t a lot more to save organising transport, my 6t is the only machine I use nowadays thanks to the truck and engcon , I really wouldn't want to go back to a 3t machine at this point unless space dictated.

I hate hiring in plant, it never comes when it says, it hangs around on site for days after you have offered it, you always get the wrong spec machine.. they always try and charge diesel, I even had them try and charge me for a operators manual on the last hire!! I just cba with it! Absolute last resort to hire anything in, I’d rather shovel!!!

Yeah fair points. I had a dumper turn up the other day. Spotted a screw in the tyre when it was still on the lorry. That tyre was fine with screw removed but then another tyre went down went I was on the job and it looked like a screw had been in there- they charged me for the repair and I can't say it wasn't me but pretty sure it wasn't me!

Easily avoidable with a tyre string kit and a battery compressor. Worth keeping in the truck just for the truck and your own wheeled plant to be fair.

I've got all that onboard anyway- this one was right through the tread lug- don't think I would have got a string in there- or at least didnt want to risk botching it given hire machine. I just pumped it up every hr to get the job done

Unless it's an inner tube.
Lots of hire stuff has tubes in because no one wants to pay for a new tyre, so tyres get worse and worse and just a tube is the easy solution.

They are all much the same and they will all get you out of s**t.
I've got loads of different kits and all have done the job. I try to get some with tools aswell because sods law says you won't have pliers or anything to dig out the item with you when it happens.

Works ok but the proper 6mm carbide burr with a point on it is readily available.

I have a handheld variant of that, useful to clean the hole out first, also have the glue(probably gone off now ) which helps shove the needle into the thicker tyres if anything!
