do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
I’m not, but then there’s only me and no staff.
advantages and draw backs as a one man operator ... have to weigh up the benefits of being able to recoup it, against having to charge it - very often the difference between getting a job and not - plus 20% is a big chunk for a lot of folks

It's not vat returns. It's your self assessment that's going from yearly to quarterly. So will be 4 lots of accountancy bills ect ect or more time out of your life doing it yourself.
always had to do quarterly VAT returns anyway, so adding the self assessment into it wouldn't make a huge difference other than being an additional PITA (if you don't keep on top of it all on a rolling basis)
certainly don't miss it (or the monthly RDCO returns either) other than it costing me 20% on top of everything these days :(

Can't claim them under aia (annual investment allowance) anymore, so unless it's a 100% pool vehicle kept at business address you can't really claim anything beside the "business" proportion of the vat
Ours is pure work / pool vehicle. Maybe the trusty Dmax won’t be the last pickup ?

It’s all an unnecessary mess tbh, so what if some exploited the rules on pickups, if a company spends money that’s a good thing, now no one is spending anything! One simply cannot operate to just pay tax for the gov to burn on private jets around the world!!

My Navara is pretty much 100% work and bought it realising I wouldn't be able to put it through as AIA as I normally would but thought sod it what other vehicle can I buy that does all the things I need in one vehicle so guess will suck up the tax but a bit different if your spending £50k on one!

You can also be sued as a director , which is why we have separate insurance for that. Also you often have to underwrite debt personally. If s**t hits the fan with me it will be HSBC getting paid first as I’m personally underwritten with them to the time of 50k +
Don’t use my overdraft (very often) but handy to have .

The Ltd benefits have been gradually eroded over last 15 years :-(
I think as long as your insured for any advice you give I'd assumed your liabilities were pretty separate. I don't give any advice so don't insure for that and don't have any guarantees so I've always presumed i was pretty safe if the s**t hit the fan?

Talking of pick ups why don't we allow cyber truck in this country? Towing ability looks immense, stainless steel body, leccy so still get the bik benefits. Is it to do with the shape of it and pedestrians safety or something?

Yes I get that but your accountant will have all your figures for vat each quarter anyway so just another button to press surely?

Depends if your vat and sa line up on the same months.

The accountant will still want paying for submitting it regardless as its essentially quadrupled their sa work load.

Also there's a hell of alot of sole traders who aren't vat registered so it'll be a shock to the system having the sa quarterly

two words - corporate manslaughter - no director is immune from that ... no matter how well you're insured and although liabilities are supposedly 'limited', behaving in anything other than a sensible business manner will still see you 'held to account'

There's nothing to back it up as it's intrue

This is all iffs and but you could claim that it's for moving people etc if you have people but if you don't own any other cars at home etc they will likely assume your using it for private use and your be taxed on it as a car ...... It's not cheap due to the emissions more so than the value.

It's a ball ache .

Single cabs are fine .

Now you may never get looked at but equally if you did they can backdate etc etc. accountant will likely suggest to play by rules

But if people can make a reason then everyone would be doing it. Mine is genuinely for towing diggers and getting me and tools to place of work. Seems unfair that for genuine use it's no longer allowed
