Client wanted to use those metal edges between a shingle drive and grass. Used the premium Corten ones. I found them a pain when trying to radius. Rusted up nice though!!Finishing off 115m of lawn edging yesterday, came up 75cm shortPriced the job well enough to not mind though , and every visit there tends to lead to more work for a genuinely nice couple
Got a 'call out' for the Defender this afternoon- our barn landlady was having a delivery of logs (I've got no logs to sell this year). The guy had driven his (very smart) iveco flatbed with hiab next to the log shed, on grass and inevitably got stuck. I would have thought hard before taking a trailer behind the defender there today, felt very soft/damp, never mind a 2wd truck with a crane and 8 dumpys of logs on! Low range, diff lock, straight out
he's left a bit of a mess behind but no ruts fortunately- he didn't have the traction to dig himself in

These are just the thin powder coated ones, not much radiusing to do here really but on a previous job with more curves they worked well
Biggest challenge here was the soil was more what you'd expect on a new build estate in places
bricks, tar clumps, etc..Found the best way to do it was to dig/scrape the trench with mini pick and shovel then bang an offcut of 4x2 down/along the trench which really firmed up the sides so I had working room.
Also using the packaging as kneelers/ measuring device helped- dig 5, fit 5 dig 5

It's not a pretty dig turns out 3 land drains 1 about 2.5m down, looking at the ground possibility built up years ago.
Ended up putting a layer of clean stone under the concrete.
Need to speak to the client as I think they will need to put a sump and pump in

Can you divert the drains or isn't it feasible?
Was called out to look at an onion that had bobbed out of ground, they had dug through drains , put unit in in gravel and not done anything with them, they were at a high level compared to bottom of dig.

Concrete surround but a lot of water constantly running. Will speak to the client in the morning they seem pretty decent so hopefully we can get a sump pump in thereTidy

A few recent purchases making life oh so easy.
This Milwaukee gear is just savagely good. And its nice to use the new trailer- it’s been out on hire half a dozen times also.
The footings were wider than I’d hoped but luckily managed to bash through them by pecking an inch or so the 20kg breaker then augering! Luckily the mix was only strong in places much of it just came out with the auger. I really should get a rock bit…
Niv comp making life super easy setting out the sleeper supports and the bottle of 15% gas I keep meant I could weld with the little welder off the domestic supply rather than take the generator. All these little bits add up to make life simple.
Even got the big mixer out- so easy to use. Like a cat on a leash behind the pickup though🫣

How deep are those steels going in? When I was working on a Barrets site about 25 years ago we were building all the retaining walls out of timber posts like that. Stupid idea in hindsight.A few recent purchases making life oh so easy.

Ready for @Mogman to do his thing.. taken 6 weeks with 3.5 of us working our bollox of to get to his point! What was originally supposed to be replace afew lintels and rebuild the top few courses ended up in the whole first floor and above being rebuilt and downstairs either side of the doorways being rebuilt down to foundations.. but it’s now nice and solid!
End of next week should see the final bits of rebuilding done then it’s a big pointing session! And slating the roof over Xmas

Chuck a 9” perf pipe in the corner where your pump is.. can just drop a pump in. backfill the whole thing with dry mix! And fill the thing with water! (Without teaching you to suck eggs!!)

I nearly said the same but didn't cos of the suck eggs thing, also if perfed twinwall or whatever is down to aggs in bottom in the sump hole it acts as decompression.
