Deep dig buckets

I've 150mm bmc that goes to about 500mm deep for electric duct

Hi Doobin, This was originally the Rhinox 400mm deep version. Now extended to 600mm with side cutters to allow for a 100mm wide warning strip to be placed at half trench depth. Captain hindsight pointed out many hours and some dollars could have been saved by getting the 700mm version and cutting it down. Plus the cutting edge angle seems better on the 700mm version.

Owned it for 3 years and used it three times. Two jobs were weaving between trees with little room for spoils. The other across a small back yard.

Pros: Opens a trench about 1/3 quicker
Half the spoils of the other 200mm bucket. no chance of digging too deep.

Cons: No chance of digging deep enough if the ground is really hard. doesn't dig as close to buildings so more hand digging. reversing the bucket doesn't really help because of the length stealing any breakout force.
Harder to keep the trench sides clear so often ending up knocking dirt back in when installing a conduit. Awkward to get the dirt out of the trench again when dirt falls in. Doesn't work well digging corners or intersections, again cos of dirt falling back in. Backfilling is just un-fun.

Still would like to give it another go if a longer wire run comes along in an open field clear of anything else underground. The current 200mm trenching bucket is quicker and more pleasant to use overall not to mention safer.

I’ve got a deep dig for the micro and never use it as too scared of services. Have used it as a ripper on the 2.6t and it’s surprisingly well put together. Not broken it yet. Just needs a tooth on the end

My shed. Just lacking walls and floors and doors

My customers all have houses

No, I’d not use it anywhere other than a rural field though. Usually I’m installing the only services the place has ever seen when I’m using it.

Some of our local fields have an asbestos water main in them . All installed in the 1950s so no markings.

I’d not want to touch one of them 🫣

get them out to tell you where it is then
did it here with openreach ..... then promptly dug their cables up where they said they weren't - 3 times ... arse covered

They are sadly not that helpful in a lot of instances.

they were bloody useless here, for sure ... were 20 ft out on where they said they DEFINITELY were and 90 deg.s out on a compass heading ... but I'd covered my bum and they were out pretty smart-ish to make good, when I told them there were two pregnant women here, on the verge of dropping and needed their phone lines
