Here's a thought. China buys British Steel then pulls the plug and closes our last remaining plant so we have to buy from them in china? Far fetched idea? Oh wait that's actually happened

Like I've said for years, mines, steel etc never moved with the times or invested any money back into the operations and were ridiculously over staffed, I would even say back a few years ago when I worked in port talbot there were still people doing nothing

used to get into Port Talbot a lot, from 1980 onwards .... and it was a bloody disgrace -- Llanwern no better, or Ponthir ....... 's no wonder the steel industry in UK went down the pan

It’s ok though - we have got rid of all our coal production (because of green-ness) but can easily buy it in by the ship-load from Japan for carbon-neutral-global-warming-friendly steel-making purposes.
We are a joke of a country sadly…..

we won't be needing coal if we have no blast furnaces left and we're not able to produce steel - just recycle scrap in electric arc furnaces, which're massively energy hungry animals to run ... but hey - we'll have plenty of spare leccy to run 'em - NOT!!

No it is truly getting out of hand. Ours stays the same but each week we come out with 1 less bag it feels like. And this is at lidl. Can't imagine shopping at a mainstream place

Everything constantly going up....and yet man at the end getting less ultimately.

I'm trying..to get food locally from folk I know .
It's actually not difficult or daft money..Im not talking about warm fuzzy pseudo farmshop bullshit just simple stuff . Like local meat from the auction and grazed on fields round here and milk likewise. Bread from the bakery few miles up the road etc.
Obvs aware that not everyone can but makes you realise who's getting the slice of the pie and it's not the producers.

Still cannot grasp how the fact we now have solar panels and wind farms on every inch of our coast here and yet leccys a fortune ..I know there's complex explanations but still seems absolute BS.

do bulk of our food shopping in Aldi, but their 'shrinkflation' is getting out of hand -- e.g. their bread is 2/3rds the size it was, not that many weeks ago, for more bucks - wraps have shrunk by 2" in dia., etc., etc. .. all quantities reducing in packaged goods.
then have to use the Morrisons I swore I'd never use, for gluten free stuff for Pam and get less than half of the quantity of goods for more than Aldi just cost
and the bills keep rising, week on week (well fortnightly, plus - only venture in every two weeks or so) ... but as said ..... getting completely out of hand

I think the thing with Aldi now is, they’ve won a big chunk of the supermarket sector, and all the other big players are price matching against them. Now they have a share they can start to do the same as all the rest did before them, slowly reduce the quantities and increase the cost. They have just got permission to build a store locally, with the only objections coming from Sainburys!

I still think Aldi wins hands down compared to the others for value and quality. The others are still stealing margin back on the fuel forecourts by keeping high margin on fuel. If your cards are at 105p plus vat, 126 inc VAT, why are they still in mid to high 130’s.
What annoys me is dual pricing. Went into Morrisons to hat a jar of coffee. Had to pay £2 more as I didn’t have a loyalty card. Asked if I can have one and they didn’t have any. Must download an App. If I didn’t want a coffee I would have given it back!!! We are being ripped off!!!

We have Morrisons delivered weekly.. just hit £200 for the first time, no meat as I go local butchers! And only £11 of that was some beers! It’s mental..

Thankfully building materials have finally stopped going up monthly!(other than aggregates!)

Same here, we have been Sains regulars for ages but now we love a visit to Aldi/Lidl, it certainly helps keep the cost down a bit. IF you can resist the temptation of an inflatable kayak and a ski suit...
We have been purchasing a meat pack from the local farm instead of the supermarkets. Maybe a little bit dearer but the difference in quality is vast..This small pack lasts us over a week and there's a decent fry up on the Sun to look forward to.
The farmer runs the shop 3 days a week and he is happy to add extras to the order that make it special. I can see his heard from my kitchen window..

The wife gets into M&S food hall early on a Monday and gets some real bargains. Plus prices are a real incentive to live a bit healthier. Farm shops round here, you can’t beat the quality but blow paying their designer prices.

Sod farm shops, that's just another fad for extorting money, just use your local butchers and the likes.

I don't live in the best of areas but there's plenty of direct from source food...all of which I use and you can't compare it to the supermarket stuff by any means.
