Yes, if it was easily removed I can see your point but it looks like a pig of a job. I am currently trying to find someone near me who will come and lift the loader up so that I can get the loader arm safety strut in position after I have removed the 4-in-1 and dragged that out of the way. That should give me a bit more accessibility.

I was watching a video about a poor starting jcb telehandler the other day, apparently geared starters are the way to go instead of standard replacements. @ACEngineering sells them I believe

Thanks, Yes i stock and sell them for alsorts but the perkins engined ones are the most common ones i sell.

ACEngineering was what i planned to change the business name too years ago when the R jumped ship and left. I just never got round to it and then it was too late as lots people knew me as A & R. 22 years later there no point so i'm stuck with it

Oh dear, the first one is junk, the second one is marginally better but not a patch on a mahle. What you should have got was a 3.2kw gear reduction mahle.

Currently i use a genuine perkins branded Mahle T410865, There are sadly 2 copies that look idential one from china and one from Lucas India. They are often advertised under the genuine perkins or mahle part numbers and hard to tell the differance visually but there are often clues in the adverts, words like "replacement for" etc are the normal give aways along with the price.

Mine are currently £225 plus and shipping and Vat genuine perkins branded, although sometimes i get the genuine mahle depends whos got stock and what price.

What you have bought there is a design perkins used between 2003 and early 2005. It was that good so perkins ditched it and started using Iskra, Iskra then changed names a few times and was then bought out by Mahle Group.

There is also a bigger 4.2kw version good for the 4cx or ones with piston hyd pumps that seem to take a lot more effort to crank over than the gear pump ones. Not quite so easy to fit though as solenoid positive stud terminal is 10mm dia not 8mm.

Some machines use a dump valve to dump the pressure to tank while cranking, some like the new manitous use a valve on top of the pump to prevent the pump coming on swash IE keeping the pump on low flow rate while cracking. Some dont have anything though and can make hard work for starters and batteries etc.
