Looks nice country to be working in.👍
The softest sand you’ll ever find. Middle of the field is all rabbit warrens and it’ll collapse just under a footstep.

Didn’t think I’d make it back up the hill with the empty trailer, didn’t dare change down to first for fear of it spinning and burying itself.

Despite the hot weather, I've been getting some trenching done.

Ahhh that's a real tonic looking at those ground conditions.
it's perfect to dig at the moment. Hard as hell, but crumbles and just falls out of the bucket. A little bit more moisture and it'd be stuck for good.
I don't know why, but I figured it was all rice paddies where you are!
I spend a lot of my time surounded by paddie fields, so it's a fair call. Sometimes I get back to do some 'real' work :)

Miserable weather this arvo. I swapped vans a few months ago and most of my plumbing and heating stock has been sat on stores floor. Our female engineer is off on maternity leave soon so I need to get a bit better organised as I’m going to be back out on call-outs a lot more. Has a fair old sort and tidy this afternoon and got clips fitted so my dewalt boxes stay put. Seem to have lost my aluminium hop up and my 6ft fibreglass step ladder somewhere 🤣

I fought this monster piece of oak onto the trailer whilst the ground is frozen (it is an incredibly wet field normally) - the 15 tonner was struggling with it, didn’t even lift one end easily!
Half an hour was spent getting the 6 tonner tracks unfrozen - we were last on this site in pissing rain before Christmas getting it all out of the neighbouring garden (the tree came down in one of the December storms) and everything had been parked up full of mud.

This gives a bit of perspective to the size of this timber - it’s a huge lump!

And this is the monster mill that will turn it into something amazing hopefully!

He makes some lovely stuff here, and is THE MAN for any large dimensioned oak.

Woah that's a mint setup. Big stenner btl?
What you doing just getting it into cants for now? Some timber there👌🏼
I think it is a stenner, yes.
I’m hoping to get a large single-board worktop for a kitchen island in our new extension, but might swap it for a piece of something he’s had cut/stacked for a few years to reduce the risk of it cupping.

It will cup like a bitc*!!

My estate agents desk is a single oak slab.. it was lovely and flat but 5 years on resembles a bmx track!
Unless you can find a large kiln to chuck it in? merchant at Matlock may have a big enough one.. he did an oak slab for me no bother and it didn’t move after!

Yeah - the guy with the mill has a kiln there too, but doesn’t use it much as it is very expensive to run. He’s got 3 inch thick boards that have been air drying for 6 or so years that would do my job so might take my chances with one of those - the centre board should (theoretically) be relatively stable.
I’m ultimately not too bothered if it turns into a Pringle - it can be swapped for a piece of granite in a few years time if it all goes wonky.

coach screw some BIG steel stringers/stretchers to the back of it Dan - make some slit tee out of some 10 x 4 UB -- they'd hold it with enough screws :giggle::giggle:
