Moors for the future spunk nearly a million a year on helicopters

The costs of running them is hideous though full rebuilds of gearbox after 100 hours etc makes boat owning look cheap think the Huey was £2.5m used lol
Wonder how big the fuel tank is- can't think it's big enough to do more than a few hours of work before refilling.🤔

833 litres apparently

Has a pickup with towable bowser with it with support crew in it slingers etc
I once built a 1000l bowser for a local chap with a helicopter, using an old S/steel beer (fermenting) vessel he'd acquired some where ... was a beautifully made vessel in 1/2" S/steel with a man hatch one end and mounted it on a twin axle chassis for him - no baffles though, so must've been a pig to tow with anything other than a full load

I was once told that the first man up in one, after undertaking any maintenance work, was the mechanic/fitter who'd done the work - focuses the mind :giggle:

The use of helicopters on jobs is a pet peeve. No money to spend on good conventional contractors but extortionate amounts to waste on one of the least efficient per ton transport methods.

The same goes for firefighting...... Often utterly ineffective from experience.

Although there are more expensive day rate bits of kit..... Boats are horrendous.

The national park rangers cream their pants at the thought of a helicopter.

Was told they couldn’t afford to do a bit near us in their budget this year as they’d have to helicopter materials in. I said to them, I get the pickup in road tyres there in summer ffs.

Wonder if same Huey?
Was on the fire job I helped up the hill.
Nice fellas . Tried to get a flight but only single crewed when water bombing due to the weight and said it's crap as fills with smoke .

Yard day again today, sort out the tip that is the back of my van 😅 one lazily loaded scrap panel caused chaos! There's also some thick foam strips in there that we don't normally use, they stink like sour milk to me 😖
Couple of coats of paint on the boom arm, it's not a perfect looking machine but this was what let it down most so half hours sanding and a cam of spray should improve it.
Another couple of ton of concrete down 👍

It's alright if they're used in conjunction with a military training exercise as has been done a few times up here. I think alot of the time they like the PR benefits the copter brings

don't think there'd be much "PR benefits" to be had if ppl actually knew the excessive costs involved in hiring a chopper with 'not their money'  ... dead easy to blow money that you've not had to make yourself if you don't GAF :mad:

Dragged the 2t back from up the hill after putting in another track. Cleaned it off. Fitted the grab we were putting together a couple days ago.

A little less overall height when closed but slightly taller when open due to the tg12 design. Main thing is a hefty weight reduction. 132kg combined for the big one and 86kg for the little one!

That's better, van sorted and I've bought some gear/started painting the next stage of organising.
Several thin coats of paint came out nicely on the arm, and I found a pair of round leds off an old disco in a drawer so I fitted one of them. China's finest, but better than what was there before- precisely nothing 😅

Found an led light bar in the drawer as well, might fit that on the roof, take the power off the green flashing light that I'll never need , via a remote switch 🤔
