What's the best tracked dumper with high tip? The messersi and Kubota looks a bit small capacity and the hiowa has that annoying lift mechanism sticking out the top. Are the JCB reliable?

Hinowa, but you pay big money. You can get them without that paticular High tip.

Always driveshaft/sprocket issues and motor issues too.... such a shame as there a cracking little design.... just ran out of steam when it came to the undercarriage

This^^^^^ I owned one. It was cheap to buy new and did my work but turning was especially crap. The Slanetrack ones are very good and have a larger capacity skip than most. But in the 500kg bracket, I'd say you cant beat the Cormidi. Good track frame design, nice and narrow and fast. The petrol ones do drink fuel though but its a small compromise to pay as they are simple to fix.

Are there any water cooled ones? I'm thinking they could be a bit quieter. I'm not a fan of the hiowa ones as they are a bit beastly compared the the TCP.

My JCB has been great, turning is poor but easily sorted with boards at key points (plus boards save ruining ground where turns are)
Looked at the cormidi the 50 has a smaller skip but is petrol and the 60 has a 600kg payload and is diesel.
Been considering a change to a slanetrac but they are a good 60mm wider than the htd5 but also tipping height looks to be a good 100mm+ lower
There is a few slanetracs going reasonably cheap used I think they closer to 10k new whereas the htd5 when I got it was 6.1k with two year warranty.
I've used a gehl one but the skips are very small

Is there a common engine fault with the JCB htd5? Only asking as most I have seen on pallets at auction have the engine in bits in the skip

I bought one and have converted it to 110v electric as it’s only carrying a light drill rig and I needed to be able to use it in the bottom of excavations where fume would be a problem

The engine is sitting on the end of my bench as I was going to have a look inside it but haven’t got around to it yet.

From memory they are lombardi's. Not the best engines but fairly reliable.

But they suffer from the classic of builders leaving them on tickover all day..... Diesels don't like it, particularly not cheap Italian diesels.

After a couple of years they do start to get smokey.
Although having spoken to local hire centre recently they changed from htd5 to the Kubota version but apparently they just as bad when they get past a year or so

Maybe if the oil was changed as it should be (probably every 100 hours on an engine that small) they wouldn't be so bad? You know how most hire companies are with maintenance.

It's on the latest htd5 that got an hour meter.
