Must of had a yard full in 2020!!

The company I work for don't want to run 13s, because the rates are so dire. We've got about 8, and don't hardly ever cross hire them to other plant companies. For the depreciation, running costs, overheads etc, a 13t should be out at 650 pw, but no one would pay it. Can cross hire one all day long from one of the nationals for 420-480 pw. Madness.

One for @V8Druid. Had a quick look at my wonky wheel on the old scissor lift today. Kingpin is snapped, which I knew. Someone has already messed with it (those cut lines are not mine) so I cut the rest of the head off and cleaned it back to have a look about drilling it out. Was expecting to find a solid pin, not a keyed shaft. Will go digging for answers later. Photo of the good side and the bad side for comparison.

I would guess the triangular plate has a keyed stub fixed to it and into a slot in the top of the king pin to ensure it doesn't rotate .. the split pin in the bottom looks to be in a reduced shaft at the end of the king pin and again would guess it comes out upwards as the top looks bigger .. pull the split pin on the damaged side and see if it will jack out .... guessing the cuts were to aid removal of two of the three screws ?

Basking in air conditioned goodness once more.

Little Kubota did the bulk of it but I needed the alpine for the mounds. Clamshell grab was just the ticket for removing the turf around the heather.

Another funeral today. My old digger driver, Dave. He really helped me in the early days, when I bought my second machine.

At least he got a few years retirement. I always feared he’d have a heart attack getting into the digger!

Is that so the heather can spread into the bare patches? Been doing a bit of heather relocation myself today, amazing how it grows over granite boulders where you'd think nothing would thrive

That’s the idea, gives the seed somewhere to get started. Its also we don’t loose track of where the heather is! Ideal time of year to do it as the flowers stand out.

This is actually a chalk downland site with an acid cap across half of it. Pretty rare, it’s called chalk heath and I think there’s only four sites in the south of England.

This site used to be commercial woodland, the heather came up from seed that was at least fifty years buried!

Been on erosion repairs and path reprofiling the last few weeks- thoroughly enjoyable weather and nice scenery to boot. 2 different sites. One crawling with tourists and the other nice and peaceful. Last photo was a job to get the digger up towards the tor as littered with boulders- if you couldn't see them they were lying just below the vegetation so a lot of hopping over them etc- managed to keep the tracks on but glad I took the digger with the shittest tracks. Sorry haven't any "after" photos yet
