Is that Tintern Abbey?

My first thought, drove past there a couple of weeks ago, amazing road.
But the description and 2nd to last photo make me think Llanthony, little underground bar? Camped very close to there on a Scout competition 15 years ago, really must go back sometime.
Either way, a great location for a bank holiday Sunday

have had some wild nights out there as a teenager on the 'Old Roger' ..... used to be our favourite haunt

yeh the scout campsite is long gone although they do still camp up that way occasionally
Tintern is significantly bigger than Llanthony and a beautiful place @Rob65

strange you should say that ... was looking at the broken crank pulley Friday, thinking must get it off and try to effect a repair, so's I can fill it with oil and see about running it up

it met with an incident on its way here and having asked Mog to look on his truck's mini-bed, he found the piece .. and sent it to me ... getting it back in spot without off balancing the thing is gonna be fun .. pulley is gonna have to come off to do it properly

Sod the faffing get the deutz finished first

Pam dragged me for a walk from the abbey across the top of the mountains from there, back to Llanvihangel several years ago, thinking I couldn't 'cope' .... she was on her knees, by the time we got back - I was still strolling along, quite happily, smoking a fag ... 's a good 7-8 miles and took a while - having to stop for her to catch up/her breath .... never did it again ...... or under-estimated my fitness level .... I can still walk the legs off her

Something I've been wondering about - why bore the cheeks and then attach two bosses rather than boring the boss OD and welding in a single piece?
I've got buckets made both ways, so wondered if it's a personal preference or by application?

main reason(s) .. I can bore a 70mm hole with ease in the cheeks -- putting a solid boss in results in shrinkage of the boss when welded in, so can need re-machining (line boring) after (PITA) and is a hell of a hole (100+mil. ) to slip a boss through -- I find this a much easier proposition with my limited facilities and equally adequate

I think it's a strength thing

occasionally I only put a boss on the outside, if the cheeks are 'chunky'

kids and Vicki been here most of the day, so sod all done today ...
sat after lunch with Harper sprawled out asleep on me and dozed off too ..
rudely awoken half an hour later thinking "sh1t -- I've pee-ed meself !! " - nope but Harper had ...
she's been very good for some time, but was unconscious after a very busy morning and seemingly full to the brim, she'd 'let go'

so after a wash and a fresh change of clothes - only thing she didn't wet was me socks - the day continued ...
Vicki'd been washing and cleaning her car out, whilst I had Harper and came out to find these sat on the walll -- could I find somewhere to 'store' them ?

made them for her, for her graduation fashion show in '09, at Earls Court -- 'sposed to represent pit head winding wheels -- been a while since I'd seen 'em -- a day's work in the workshop on a Sunday, with a manakin wrapped in an assy blanket
didn't want 'em polished up -- wanted the natural patina left on the steel -- was quite a challenge at the time .. the model at the back's wearing the 'hip' jobs

... and he was apparently !!

did you ever go to the priory on a sunday night ?

first time I've been up there in years, but as a teenager we used to spend many a weekend up there
SIL works there most weekends and I know the licensee very well

Needing a larger (expensive) cutter is a good reason!
I need to make a couple, hence my interest, but not having appropriate cutters, the cheeks will be laser cut. One bonus of profile cutting is one size hole is just as easy as any other.

poxy weather ... damp start to the day - didn't get started 'til after lunch and then we had a few can you justs to contend with

one of several about the place for planting various flowers in ....
beats the hell out of digging the damned things though was a good investment

decided (after some thought the other day) to add a few stiffeners here and there, so cut them and got them installed - between the on / off large splodges of wet stuff , but forced to concede defeat at tea time and covered it up ... too wet and now too heavy to lift down off the bench 'manually' - so covered it up and went an' had some grub

ready for a final clean off and some 'weather protection' tomorrow, after giving the bosses a fettle with a flap -- have shrunk them ever so slightly, full welding them onto the cheeks ... pins're now just a tad tighter to slide in, but still go with the braces removed

now then -- any suggestions on colour for the 'weather protection' ??

the bloody rain has been on/off all day

gonna have to give it a couple of days now, let the paint harden off, 'fore I can do much else ... waiting on some M16 x 40s to arrive ... clean out of 'em, to bolt the winch into place.
(checked the tracking on them this morning, when I got an email saying they'd be delivered today - collected from Walthamstow depot at 07.55 this morning - by bloody Yodel - so fat chance before Friday )

Then plumb it up and hang it on the 'Drema to get the rope back on it -- Pam's gonna have to 'conquer' her fear of heights and her aversion to climbing in it .. gonna need her to run the Aux pedal while I feed the rope back on

then I'm gonna have to get my head around part deux or even part 3 , technically ... have several options floating about in my head currently

Seriously now....you've got the space and the machine big enough why not knock up a temp? shelter for this winter?
16ft square with a slight lean and just use SHS and chuck 16ft sheets on top.
Even just 4 decent posts think big gazebo...Be a doddle to knock up and then just weld a big loop in middle and shift about with dremas grab?
I couldn't be arsed scratting about outside if we have a winter like this again..
Neighbours can't do owt as it's temp plus prob not even see it if no sides on...

How long would it take them to pull there finger far enough out the a*se to actually make you take it down. Especially if you keep appealing it.
