@Dr pecker is your man to answer this question @rooster cogburn .. presume you mean side mounted as opposed to top mounted - My guess would be a yes
Nigel isn't in here that regularly though, so might have to wait a bit

cheap Chinese ones a plenty unused at auctions etc but tricky bit getting driving cup made for them

go for a named brand Krupp, indeco, rammer, prodded etc etc be easier to get a cup for it

Assume you mean breaker converted ones Vs drop weight as per protech etc?

Yes only really for home farm use trying to keep costs reasonable

I'd get a name brand one it'll do you for years on a 8t you won't need to worry about a side mount the boom goes plenty high enough. On a 3t you need the side mount to get the hammer on top of the post.
Be aware on a 8t it'll be easy to split the posts it's more than possible on the 3t

I got a price from him 6 years ago, but he wouldn’t put it down in a email and I forget what he said over the phone now! I’m sure it was £500 odd for my breaker to go on 8tonner

he means the cup not the breaker I got one off Paul for my 1.5 ton breaker was £500

you can run any size you want basically can run a 5 ton hammer etc doesn't need to be an 8 ton hammer

worse, mast is the professional choice. breaker is ok for odd post etc but keeping them straight and inline is tricky

mast you can use the hydraulic function to straighten and align etc drive at angles easier

but for rough banging in posts etc they work well good for banks and slopes over walls etc

all the pro lads are on tracked knockers with masts

the mast digger machines are ok but again tricky to get posts perfect so post and rail etc not the best but stock fencing ok

If you have the breaker already than adding a cup is going to be cheapest method. I have the protech p18 on my 3 tonner and it has a 180kg, it would take a 210kg also if I wanted, puts strainer posts in well enough if the ground is ok. Done a lot of work with mine, some very awkward jobs that you'd struggle to get a dedicated tracked knocker to let alone a tractor and always happy with standard of work I can achieve with it.
I much prefer it mounted at the bottom of the mast as opposed to the mid point which most people seem to mount it on, also don't like the leg they supply with it and using my chained postcap method I can use the post as a leg instead which takes the bounce out of the boom.

Like I say its ok if dead straight isn’t required but on say post and rail on a ménage it’s tricky to get them perfectly straight and 1.8m spacing for rails etc where as with a tractor or tracked knocker you can finesse it with hydraulic side to side and back and forth to get it mm perfect

I bottom mount it on 3 ton where it can catch you out but have it mid mounted on 5 ton on the big steels its an all terrain fencing weapon, mid mounted can reach over stuff to drive posts etc

Does your kinghitter have back shift on it? Farmer friend had one and it would only sideshift which meant faffing around with tractor position if the post drifted on a rock or root.
I had a fairly nice Wrag outfit on my old Same which would back shift and sideshift but working on my own I'd take the digger unit as easier in and out plus digger was always there anyway so made sense that It did the whole job rather than bringing another machine- rock spike was ace though

On the same size machine a drop weight will have far more smack than a breaker. 8 ton it should be ok on strainers though- all depends on ground.
