today's been a full on 'kids day', followed by --- mow all the bloody grass -- plus massacre all the weeds in a small paddock for the 'horsey girls' who rent the barn up the drive ... stood on the Dane's foot board and the nettles were a foot above my head
the lawn 'fore tea

and dispose of a sweeper full
then Daned the bit beside the drive, followed by the little paddock .. thought I'd taken some before pix, but can't find 'em on the phone

they'll have to go round the edges with a brush cutter ..
couldn't find the fence line and did not wanna get tangled up in that ....
found one rock that stopped the Dane dead - as in stalled it :oops:
then sat down 'bout half nine to wade through the day's posts here -- (still got 22 left, :oops:but it's time for bed) and a lot of msgs re- FLTs on FB MP ...
have found two I particularly want to take a look at ;):) ...
one's a beast, but a VERY good price - least it is after some negotiation :giggle: and t'other is a sweet 4 tonner - had decided to view and buy, but 'the beast' now, has given me a quandary :unsure:

Pam determined to finish off another section of the main drive this morning ... by the time I got up there with the little 'tug', blower and all the other gear, I didn't know where to start .. drive was like a green carpet :ROFLMAO:
Blower does a brilliant job of clearing it all though and our 'third plus' was massacred for another year by lunch time.

WP_20240630_12_22_19_Pro.jpg

second bunch of horsey girls have had their marching orders - messy bas**rds ... left a bloody mess and about 15t of crush, sat in the middle of the parking/turning area outside the barn - been there a good 12 months -- t'others asked me ages ago if I'd go shift it and spread it about for 'em - total PITFA, where it was sat.

so had some lunch, wound up the P38 (who's air suspension behaved perfectly today :unsure:). hooked up the Ifor and loaded Lil' Jakie onto it and dragged it up the drive ....
first thing on the agenda was clear up the burning pile, which has crept ever forward of late ... Pam nicked my phone for some pix .. not very often on this side of it :)

been a while since I've been swinging a bucket about .. she performed well, fair play
then start haymaking this 'crush' - I use the word advisedly - utter crap .. like trying to ice a cake with marbles - 2"+ ones...
cleared a bit of it, and spread, so I could get another trailer past the heap ... Pam wanted some 'well rotted horse sh1t for her veggie boxes, etc. ... so came back down with the P38, hooked the 10 x 5 on and spread two dumpy bags out, hung from the sides and took that back up.
had to get at the tish first, before it got buried in crap ...
that bucket, full of soggy, well rotted 'jelly', is the limit at full stretch .. but didn't need many to fill two bags :giggle:
two dumpies later and brought back down .. gonna need the 'Drema to hoik them back out  they'm well filled .. job for the morning and drop one by her vegggie boxes

then set to on the crush heap in earnest
having to 'hay make' made a slow ol' job out of it, but'd got two thirds of it shifted and spread by tea time ..
Left Lil' jakie ready to finish off after tea ... I couldn't stretch more than half was across the heap when i started..
WP_20240629_18_52_57_Pro.jpg

slung the rest round behind me and then spread it about
WP_20240629_20_12_52_Pro.jpg
WP_20240629_20_13_08_Pro.jpg

could do with some planings on top of it really, but the pile is no more - went round the edges clearing all the crap that'd ingressed into the turning area, from the two messy sods - they'd tip the crap anywhere - really wants a better scrape off
WP_20240630_12_23_26_Pro.jpg

put a bit of a berm along the stream edge with some assorted crap
WP_20240630_12_22_56_Pro.jpg

and 'twas time to get the flock out o' there
WP_20240629_20_36_11_Pro.jpg

should've got a few more pix really, but been hard at it since lunch time .. will have to get a few of the results  .... gonna have to have a go at where they kept their bloody chickens next .. 's a bloody mess .. hate having to look at, when we drive past .. dirty sods

the muddy patch in the above post's pic was the extent of the 'crush' heap ... took a while to shift/chuck it about where I wanted it .. could've took the 'Drema up, but barely worth the effort for a couple of buckets -- and that edge is getting softer, by the year
Might haul the roller up there some time and whack it down a bit

wound up the 'Drema to off load two bags o' tish this morning and juggled a few more about whilst I had the bag lifter on the hook, then lifted Lil' Jakies bucket out the back, onto the floor
WP_20240630_12_37_32_Pro.jpg

stood on the spare on the Ifor, beside it and realised it was flat :unsure:o_O:oops::(
hadn't changed the valve (presumably forgot) when I'd put the new tyre on so assumed it was the issue ...
so ...
WP_20240630_15_31_37_Pro.jpg

whipped the offending item out and put a new stem in ..... filled it with wind then went round the beads with water and the valve stem - no bubbles :giggle::giggle:, so bolted it back on the side of the Ifor - job did

Pam picked up one of these in Aldi a few weeks ago for 3 quid - she thought it looked good - I have to concur - not put it up yet - still pondering where to mount it - got a hell of a grip and it is VERY nicely made, fair play (y)

as said, elsewhere earlier .... out with Russ this morning ... in Pontrilas's yard by 7.45 to meet Russ ... new weigh bridge into spot .. they're BIG on contract lifts for this sort of thing - hence me on the floor.
fitter arrived behind the crane and followed us in
Russ'd been told it was 10t, so was gonna need two lifts, from where it'd been dumped - we looked at it and thought 6t -- max --- fitter couldn't confirm either way so set up and reeved for ten .. got a hold of it and 6.4t including chains and hook block :( ... could've done it in one and saved twenty minutes ... can guarantee -- rig for light, it'll be heavy - rig for heavy, it'll be light

loong day yesterday...
job site between Swansea and Amman ford ...
32Mw solar farm, unloading seven, 14t transformer HV/LV units built onto 20ft shipping flats/container skids from Ying Tong land. ....
Russ usually goes the long way round from his place down the M4, but as he wanted me with him, said he'd go Heads Of The Valleys A465 and pick me up in Aber on his way by ..
seeing as he was leaving Ross at 05.00  I'd've needed to be at his for then....
(03.40 start for me) ...
was a 04.15 start anyway, to be parked on the side of the HOV to meet him at 05.30.
Tried to decide on a spot I could leave the car all day - was gonna be Waitrose's car park, 'til I sussed they were 'camera'-ed and likely to get clobbered, so Pam volunteered to drop me in a lay by on the 465 (she's always up and prowling the house circa five o'clock anyway ):unsure:
As usual, no matter how early you start he's (almost) always sat waiting at a Rendezvous (but not always :giggle:) .
emptied the Kia's boot of kit bag, harnesses, wet gear and grub bag into the Liebherr's passenger compartment, Pam disappeared and we set off.
Horrendous roadworks (STILL) at Merffa, but very quiet, so made good progress and arrived on site an hour early (Russ could not believe the time difference, form his usual route on the M4) so heads down for half an hour, 'til bodies started arriving on site
Agent arrived, who Russ has worked for before - decent bloke - apparently five of the seven trucks were parked in the services at the end of the M4, waiting to be 'called in' ... tiny lane access down what was essentially once a farm track, that's had 6" of tar and a lot of money spent on it to make it 'usable', so one in, one out, as required.
Rigged and ready for the first one by 08.00.
went and signed in and got Russ's RAMS signed off ..
view from the site office's stairs ..
acres and acres and acres of solar panels

pretty bleak spot and very 'inclement' - looked like it was gonna be pretty shite day
Russ was in lust with this
WP_20240705_09_03_56_Pro.jpg

meant to get a 'closer' shot, but forgot - was tearing about most of the day
two in by 09.15
WP_20240705_09_18_07_Pro.jpg

no 5 arrived by 10.15
WP_20240705_10_17_51_Pro.jpg

and five on the floor by 10.30 :love:
WP_20240705_10_50_01_Pro.jpg

was looking good for a real early 'knock'
then it fell apart - no one knew WTF #6 & #7 were
Ten past one #1 truck arrived with the sixth load - had been back to where ever they were coming from to get it :(, so offed that and moved to where #7 had to be sat
WP_20240705_12_50_48_Pro.jpg

WP_20240705_12_50_43_Pro.jpg

and got our heads down again  ... 'least the weather'd picked up considerably and we were now in shirt sleeves :)

WP_20240705_12_50_58_Pro.jpg

#7 turned up by three and we had it sat on its final resting place, with its covers off
WP_20240705_15_03_52_Pro.jpg

Ying Tong engineering at its finest - what a piece of crap ... cooling panels were (looked like) domestic rad.s, all built up into a core ... welding was diabolical and no bunding for when the tranny sh1ts itself , which looked to be an inevitable eventuality
these had been a bitch to sling, with big voids under their covers ... a right balancing act, wrestling 12mm chains onto the corner lift points, balanced on the edges/cross bars ...
had a harness on and fall arrestor hung off the main hook all day .. only needed it the once, when I slipped off a cross bar and went backwards onto the covers, yanking at the arrestor as I went .. Russ said it looked hilarious and no harm done :ROFLMAO:
I wasn't heavy enough to have gone through the cover :giggle: .....
not bad really considering the amount of clambering I did yesterday
one of Russ and his 'weapon'
WP_20240705_15_04_03_Pro.jpg

and no the crane's not small - he's 6' 6"
just about to wrap up and the 'can you justs' started :(
wants to be here again so had to oblige ... picked a dead tracked carrier out of the middle of the yard and slung it to the edge (didn't get a pic. sorry - no idea what it was, breed wise - but on steel tracks and weighed 6t) - was missing an engine and a few other 'vital' components - dunno whether it'd died or been nicked?
and we were away at ten to four
horrendous traffic on the 465 at Merffa road works, but when it's all finished, it's gonna be an awesome route (Aiden @CPS - you wouldn't recognise Baverstocks/Hirwaun area - I knew roughly where I was and didn't - will get some pix, next time we're down there)

Pam rang as we were leaving, for an ETA to collect me, from the Hardwick roundabout, outside Aber - has a great pull in - " 6-ish, barring traffic " .. " Great - just about to put some cakes and a rhubarb crumble in the oven! "
rang her back later, sat in traffic carnage at Merffa - " Better add a good 30 minutes to the ETA - we're stuck at the bottom of Baverstock's pitch and still got Cefn Coed and Dowlais top to get past yet , 'fore we're out of it all "
No sooner finished talking to her and Russ's rang - " er - where are you Russ ? " - one of his mates, does recovery - had a truck on its side on the Ross spur, down a bank and crawling with plod who were panicking it'd roll over, down the bank and into a car park below .. " In traffic on the 465 at Merffa - Will be with you in about an hour or so "
Got to Aber about half six - I leapt out, grabbed all my gear and dumped it on the side of the road to await Pam's arrival and Russ shot off for Ross.
Bunch of young women stood where we'd stopped, one says to me " are you coming to the Shania twain concert too? " :ROFLMAO:I'm stood there, head to toe in Hi-viz yellow, hard hat and climbing harness in hand, bright orange kit bag on the floor - " Do I really look like I'm going to a concert?? " :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: and with that their mini bus arrives and they're gone ... closely followed by Pam .. loaded me gear in the boot and we were outathere :giggle:

Russ arrived to find this
