Haven't tried yet, been a busy couple of weeks but to be honest I probably wont be going for it.
Don't think I can justify the cost in the hope that I can get more work that benefits from the higher spec machine, need to buy for the work that I've got really, not what I want
That coupled with the big drop in used prices (seen some slightly scary depreciation on a few machines) has got me thinking that a decent, modern used machine is the way to go this time. Just something that does the basics well, is nice to operate for a day and I have a bit more confidence in than my old Case for taking on other people's jobs- bit like my yanmar sv08 really, just does the job and pays its way.

To be honest I've never looked at Cats new or used, but I've come across a couple in my searches that seem good value used.
What are they like for room in the canopy? I had a (literally)sit on a kubota u-17 the other day and I had to physically move my left leg out the way if I wanted to slew to the right
would have been almost undrivable really..Same question for the Hitachi 17 or 19 if anyone knows

I'm 6'4 and don't have a problem on the u17 that I can think of. I really like them tbh but then I hold the top of the joystick as I'm special.
The Hitachi are probably broader but still quite close to the front rail. Again doesn't bother me once on it, just the climbing in and out, Made worse by Hitachi's being really tall machines to get into they do feel very different seating positions if you jump of the Kubota and onto a hitachi. If your case is full tail swing then any zero tail machine will feel cramped

I just can't get past that they're made in China and that the hydraulic valve block is all electric operated- not sure how well it will age. Contractor I bought my Tak of had several new cats. Said backup was fantastic which is a good thing as the paint was peeling off within a year

The first next gen cats will be around 5 to 6 years old now and there's plenty of utility boys round here with them

Yeah that doesn't surprise me. I'm sure they're absolutely fine and certainly looked well put together. It's more a mental block with me.

You can buy my Takeuchi off me if you like! Not my fave machine. But I'll give it's due I've had it 6 years and not given me one single problem and has aged very gracefully. £13k plus vat without grab.Haven't tried yet, been a busy couple of weeks but to be honest I probably wont be going for it.

Done 1500 hrs. Could do that again and reckon it will still be worth around the £10k mark

I know what you mean, all the electric control, joystick tracking etc looks great to use, but it must have potential to write the machine off on cost alone at a relatively young age?

But am I right in thinking you've never really liked it? If so why not?
A Takeuchi 215r/217r are high on my shopping list, my mate has one and everyone loves it. I certainly do, every time I drive it I want to keep going. I rang him up the other day, asked him 'if you were buying another 1.5, what would you buy?' With no hesitation he said 'same again, no question'. Can't get better endorsement than that?
Shame they're relatively rare.

Good points are it's quick and nice to grade with, decent reach and it's well planted.
Bad points are I find the slew has far too much side to side movement (from new so they're just like this, it's not wearing), also think it's lacking a bit in breakout compared to some of the competition, but by far the main reason I'm wanting rid is it's just far too bog basic for the uses i have. Foot control for the aux/grab etc is becoming quite inflammatory for my knees, and no track pedals etc.
All the Taks I've had (5 in total) have all been utterly bombproof though. Taken 2 to 5k hours with barely so much as a few hoses and set of tracks- can't grumble with that.

Very different machine to the e19 at the start of this thread I know but from experience the Tak suits my current work well. If I ever get to the point where the work I'm doing means I'm regretting not having all the hydraulic extras etc then I'll happily review the situation

Pleased to see it has a proper dipper on it rather than the cast ones on the earlier models like mine. Makes it easier to weld a thumb on if needed...
