Make sure you compact well under it otherwise you still get tram lines and you can’t then rip up the drive to regrade without removing the plastic stuff.

I done a car park base where they where using something very similar, the council wanted these as they didn't want tarmac or concrete to spoil the view. The people supplying the plastic grid laid it and done the soil fill, and may be a sand screed they sat on, just cant remember now.
The spec from memory was something like excavate 270mm, 150mm sub-base, 80mm of single size (14 or 20mm), terram membrane, and edgings all round to finished level.
They wanted the removed top soil around the the edge to form a bund to stop vehicles going further than the car park. I had to go back and reduce the height of these bunds as the council felt they where too high and would encourage anti-social behavior, they held up fine with the weight of duck and dumper on them while doing this.

The grass won't stay alive if it's well traveled. Won't go to mud but will just be brown.
On the concrete version you can leave the fill lower so the grass isn't actually run on but a few grass cuts and it's level and defeated the object

On one of the sites they mentioned 10mm and 20mm mixed as the base, then 50/50 soil and 20mm then the plastic on top.

Yeah, they supply builders merchants ect ect. They are bout a 30min drive from me.

I have used Ibran grids. They sell direct and deliver in 1-2 days. Clip together and pretty solid.

Ring them up, they are great to talk to. No bull s**t and as said best price you can get. They will post but if you need I'd collect and send to you.

I've been asked to price for using these grids/similar for a footpath in a grassed area.

The brief is cheap and blends in (so just grass on show).

Most of these are designed to go on a sub-base + bedding layer and meant for vehicle traffic, is there a more basic version for foot traffic only?

Seen this system

Obviously looks great but the reason they want a footpath is because it's wet and goes muddy. No chance currently of driving a roller over it so can't see that idea working until summer and they want it done ASAP.

Anyone done something similar?

Have you tried doing concrete and painting it green, not helpful I know but might be worth considering,
Add some sharp sand to the existing turf area make it less muddy.

Interesting. I have used Ibran gravel grids which impressed me with the price/quality. Not sure turning them upside down and rolling them in would be a great idea as they have quite a surface area on the bottom which would help stop them sinking. If it was wet I am not convinced that the grids in the video would not just sink further into the ground.

Those Ibran grids look good, if they can be laid on soil rather than sub base that would be a big benefit.
