I reckon it’s about time we had a thread for this. I’ll start.

I managed to put a bucket corner through my Kubota rear tyre sidewall. £390 for a tyre, and no stock, only made for Kubota in that size (315/75r15). I could order from Trelleborg, but special order from Sri Lanka.

Sooooo…. Bit of conveyor belt, a sanding disc on a die grinder and a full tube of tiger seal!

I’ll let it cure fully, dress the edges a bit more and then reinstall with a tube. The theory is good- it’s always the flex that kills a sidewall repair. Tiger seal is an incredibly strong and flexible bond. It stuck to both rubbers like s**t to a blanket.

So come on- post your bodges!

Have you heard of gator patches? They are kind of designed for this application. Your repair is ace though!

It'll be interesting to see how it performs.
On a wound like that even a properly applied tyre repair gaiter will only be a temporary repair, as doobin says, the cut acts as a hinge and with enough flexes it will split. Filling the wound is essential for a permanent repair and well worth getting a proper job done by a tyre repairer.
I did try using rema tip top repair compound but found that our local tyre repairer was usually able to turn around a hot vulcanised repair faster than my cold mix could cure.

I had a Trelleborg tyre on order for eighteen months.......they had to wait for the civil war to finish before they could make it !
Back in the day when I was into off road tyres the Trelleborg inner tube range marketed under the STT brand was by far and away the best quality for the price .......obviously not popular with the tyre trade 😉

Would have sent it away to a tyre fitters where they send it off for major repair as off highway tyre use
Put a 50x50mm angle iron through the edge to side of a front 3cx 20 inch tyre had it repaired refitted and wore it out eventually
