GF I had when I was in college was from Haslemere - Tower Road ... her old man was a semi-retired brigadier general in the REME ... there are some lovely pads in that neck of the woods ... used to get up there quite a bit ... nice part of the world

View attachment 56942This chipper has sat in shed for years because its old and not what we do anymore because it was labour intensive and not much fun but with this new 6t tiltrotator gripper / tmk shear setup we have has got has me thinking it might not be so bad a job every now and then inbetween bread and butter
How much of a tracked chipper do I need that can handle being fed with the digger ?

The ones @Monkeybusiness has can be fed with the grab…. I’m sure he will be along to tell me off/tell you what model they are 🫣

Greenmech 1928 Safetrak - fantastic machines! There is a bloke selling one in Brighton for £8500 - it’s been listed for a while so I’m sure he’d take a bid. I’d buy it if it was closer as it’s the right money (even if it needs a bit spending on it). They are great machines that will go anywhere.

This is the newer Kubota engined model - I personally prefer the earlier MK1 with the Isuzu engine but this would be a decent buy in my opinion (same machine new now would be well over £40k).

Its open underneath the stairs, up to the steel gets blocked in. All part of original plan. Stairs all being clad in stone for finish.

Not really, but can do/have done.
They aren’t designed for machine feeding but you can feed decent straightish stuff into them with a grab easy enough - the feed will take 7.5inchx11inch timber. If you try to stuff grab-fulls of brash through them you’ll soon bend something though…
For digger feeding we have a much bigger Bandit pto machine with a 12x20 (I think) inch opening but that’s too small for a lot of our jobs, so we tend to sub BIG chippers in as required.

If you were buying something on tracks to exclusively feed with a machine you’d need to be looking at £50k plus for something very secondhand, and a minimum of 12 inch capacity. UFKES have a 3.5 tonne (so towable) 140hp trailer-mounted machine (also available as a tracked unit) drum chipper which is a hand-feed machine but is also designed for machine feeding (safety bar overridden etc) which has the best ‘small’ chipper hopper setup for feeding with a grab that I’ve used - it’s very open from above upto the feed rollers. It’s a fantastic machine but is over £90k plus the vat for the basic wheeled version (and won’t load artics)...

It would definitely do your job and would be worlds apart from the wheeled chipper you have now! You just have to be sensible with what you try and jam in it with the digger - the issue isn’t the machine’s capabilities, it’s more the fact that you’ll try and get a big grab into a relatively small hopper to clear something that’s jammed (as you’ve been too enthusiastic!) and then the big digger will probably bend the hand-feed chipper a bit…
