New ram arrived. Thread fit seems very good.

However I’m not sure 14.5mm of M18 thread is up to the job. Certainly not if they break as often as it seemed from talking to the dealer. Was loctited. @V8Druid ?

Would be easy to redesign to have more thread.

what're the threads like cleaned up though ? .. you sure that's M18 and not M16?? ..... :unsure:
M20 x 2.5'd be a better option, but'd need a new rod then :(:(

do you have room to fit a second ram over/under, the other way round, and tee them up, so you always have one pushing?:unsure:

I have it in my mind that an ISO metric coarse thread at whatever standard they're meant to be for this kind of work (3b?) is designed to achieve 100% axial strength in three revolutions. Realities may of course be different but that's a vaguely book answer to the 14.5mm question.

I cleaned them up to test. Yes deffo M18 as I didn't have a tap to clean up the thread remaining when the first one broke!

Not worth it. It took 700 hours to happen. Having inspected the welded one there doesn't appear to be any conflict between my weld and the ram casing, so if it happens again the welded one will go back on.

Presumably that would also double the turns required lock to lock?

provided the threads are cut to true spec. (which I'm of the opinion that Doob's original wasn't)

interesting observation, but possibly not, as the orbital bleeds off excess oil as you steer, so may well be an adequate flow to cope with a second ram ? :unsure: putting one above the other, but reversed would give you a push in both directions... not having seen how yours is built/set up, but could you add some additional yokes so they sit above/below the originals and make some longer pins ... tee-ed, alternate ends, they'll balance each other in operation ;)

Running repairs to the e27. Slight cracks each side of the track frame. It’s a stress point on all diggers and more so when lifting and swinging timber about.

Every so slightly concave on the neighbouring metal so though it best to add a plate after grinding out and welding the root.

Not the easiest place to get to
