I've a phobia working more than 3miles from home but just taking digger n dumper to and from absorbs a day....a day that no one wants to pay for directly but has to be factored in on the rate.

They left them all long for the bees they are currently going round doing cut and collect with them but obviously with the weather they are struggling like buggery to collect it.

There seems to be a general belief in the southeast now that it's wrong to maintain the countryside, verges, hedges, trees .
Total lack of understanding from people who think they know better:mad::mad:

First noticed it at a mates down there ..he said he's had snidey comments for cutting his grass...oh we aren't cutting this month 😂😂😂 I know what my response would have been...🖕

I know what you’re saying. Part of the job description though isn’t it?

You can never have too much kit working with big wind blown oaks. The digger and grab is essential, and if you can’t burn you obviously need a chipper. The multione is great as you can’t get trucks up to it so it carries the rings and any milling bits out to trucks and trailers on the driveway. It’s also handy for providing a safe space with the mancrate from which to dismantle- lots of tension in those limbs.

The firewood processing is just because it’s a shame to waste it, and it would need to be moved anyway. Much easier to do that on site, saves double handling. My ‘firewood business’ is doing that bit anyway, so that doesn’t affect job costings- if anything it saves money.

As for money, it’s a mates job (Rob the climber, feeding this chipper in pix). He’s got a grand on it, I’ve got two. We will be done today (day 2). Him, me and Harry who I go 50/50 on our ‘firewood business’ (I provide the machinery and fronted the initial capital, he does the work). So that’s a grand a day for me and my machines, free milling wood (worth taking the loader just for that so save wasting it by ringing up) and fk knows how much firewood. Harry did four crates yesterday so that’s nearly a grand of timber ready to store for a year, plus two tipper loads of 10” rings dropped in the shed ready to split. Much easier to keep all the mess on site and save handling a length twice.

For that kind of money I couldn’t give two shits about a couple of hours with a trailer 🤷‍♂️ Machines pay for themselves at a rate well above paying for useless labour and you can’t complain about moving them as it’s an integral part of the job we all do. Just cost it in.

You al make comments about the amount of gear I have but I always tell you how I make it work. Five year finance, rich area and being like the Indians. Not by opening a casino, by using every part of the buffalo! 🤣

Start of play today… eyeing up some milling timber. Hard to say if it’ll be any good yet.

Let it bloom June. Is another tag line live seen. I'm actually on bored with this in those 2 months. There probably is excessive mowing and some of the verges this year looked cracking with all the poppies and cornflowers etc. but think after summer it should be cut back and certainly shouldnt compromise on mowing where visibility is concerned- like junctions etc
