Diggers are a given and work well for me what with the variety of sizes and attachments.

I'd like to invest in another completely different machine perhaps with a different skill set/experience base. Got to be towable

I see some do very well with the Avant/multi one setups but fairly confident of my local market that that wouldn't be a good option for me. Wrong kind of terrain/properties. I've never felt the need for one in the jobs I do.

Latest thinking could be Alpine tractor with flail and I'm sure plenty of other attachments as time goes on. Able to work on awkward sites that would interest the ag contractors etc. I'm thinking a few ads in the local parish rags and keep it aside from my main business- simply machine and owner only

Self propelled flail? Possibly even truck and a variety of towing services with different trailers etc. All just ideas really but looking for a way to get into something a little less physical and that I can keep doing as I get older ...

Tractors have been good for me. A tractor wins over a loader in that people think- 'I need a tractor and driver'. They don't think 'I need a loader and driver', so you tend to make your money with a loader with efficiency on quoted jobs.

The nice thing about a tractor is that attachments are pretty cheap secondhand, and it can then be a jack of all.

I wouldn't go for a self propelled flail- what's the point? A reverse drive alpine can be a self propelled flail and it's still a tractor once you've done flailing.

Random one , guy that had a decent crane hire out fit has downsized to just a cabstar sized thing with some impressive crane on and does specialist lifts for glass etc...the numbers he claimed he was earning were impressive
Reckoned was well more profitable than his big liebherr there's a thread on here somewhere with details we discussed before ..but obviously requires tickets etc I'd imagine.

i suspect impressive cranes come with impressive price tag depends on how much investment is planned I suppose, have you thought about buying a towable diesel generator and offering to run round to charge EV busses and Lorries that have run out of juice before making it but to depo

Seriously cool. Lad that recovered us the other week Saud they had one and he'd just used it to collect a Merc slk that had gad all 4 wheels nicked and dumped on the deck ...literally just slid it underneath...also about only thing you can use in multistorey as well

I saw (somewhere, but can’t recall exactly where) one being used to get a locked/unopenable Ferrari out of a very tight single garage for recovery to the dealers. On the right job I reckon you could charge whatever you choose as any alternative will involve damage to something.

Sure I seen a car repossession or untaxed or similar, with something like that a few weeks ago the car was sandwiched between 2 cars

As you and the honourable member for Midhurst have already alluded to, mini loaders are great but people can’t see beyond more common machines. Subbing with mine has been a flop so far.

The best money spinners in many respects are doing simple things for the crass/lazy/stupid. Misfuel rescues, hot tub lifts etc. I draw the line at wheelie bin washing but you get the idea. Something I just thought of was puncture rescues for the increasing number of cars that don’t carry spares. Have a little car trailer with twenty common hole pattern wheels, a jack, a rattle gun and a roll of package wrap. Turn up to someone stranded, change a wheel, wrap their one up and put it in their back seat and charge them £100 for a £10 wheel. For extra points, buy the wheel back off them when they list it on marketplace a fortnight later. Does require turning out whenever and dealing with whoever though.

Both of those work great on a reverse drive alpine tractor. I think the choice is obvious!

Some good suggestions here. Some of which could probably be lucrative in the right hands- I think it's got to interest me though which is where the cherry pickers and the like fall flat. Too much responsibility too. Alpines seem the obvious choice. It kinda runs well with other stuff I offer but at the same time might be nice standalone business when my back decides it's had enough of stone walling. I'm always cautious of buying a load of attachments though as inevitable some up going to end up in the nettles. I reckon flail would be the first thing. A decent sideshift postknocker on a reverse drive alpine might also be good but reality is unless I'm prepared to do the whole job I think the call for just a post driving services would be limited.
