Post knocker tracked dumper project

I’ve a canycom s100 swivel dumper branded as a Kubota

I fancy taking skip off and mounting a protech p30 compact tractor post knocker on it. Giving 180 swivel and sub 1m width plus tracked ability and tow ability for a potential fencing job next year doing fenced footpaths so post and rail both sides so could sit in middle and do both fences without needing to be on the sensitive/good side of the fence.

The p30 is aimed at 36hp and up tractors max flow is 50/l min but quick look at new kubota 36hp shows 20/lmin is its flow.

The canycom is 12lmin on belt driven pump

Thinking this might not be upto the task , at least it wouldn’t be combined functions but I’d like to retain swivel and tip ram so you could lie it down to 45 degrees etc for transport.

Worse case I guess is power pack mounted where skip used to be.

I’ve a digger mounted p18+ and as handy as that is it’s not the same as working next to knocker in control refining post position etc

Will 12/min lift the weight quick enough to be usable I wonder.

I would think so as the knocking ram is very small maybe a bit slow setting it up though but not much as you rarely pull any spool to full travel

Turns out wrag did some factory ones on the s160 chassis but that had 16/min pump , also someone else done a s160 conversion

bull dog clips on the wrong way round - AGAIN ... choke should be on the free end ... top's the same and only a single clip

Couldn’t you temporarily plumb it into the dumper whist it’s still on the tractor ? Soon see what it’s good for then

Not bought the p30 yet and not got a compact tractor as backup

My assumption is they do it that way so threads are sticking out not to chew up mast?

Might just be a case of turning the eyelet round on the lug then. Shouldn't matter which way round the tails are imho

We used to have a big 500kg weight king hitter but mast was so long it wouldbt go under our railway bridge in the tractor which made it awkward going out flat on a trailer then getting it upright and on

They do, but was a big old lump and on anything remotely not flat could get interesting, plus unless you have a driver in and out all day in depressing. Ours didn’t have hydraulic back forth either so had to position exactly tractor then could slide out to line and angle but not go up and down the line if slightly off

My first postknocking setup was a Wrag (200kg weight) on a Zetor 7045. If I remember the flow was around 20 L/min. The problem was the weight was painfully slow getting to the top of the mast. Wasn't too bad if pulling the weight from the bottom of the mast as momentum seemed to help but if lifting of the top of a strainer post for example it wouldn't do it. Was that a pressure problem rather than flow perhaps as said the ram to lift the weight is pretty short stroke so would have thought there would be enough flow.
In the end Wrag built me one with a PTO pump mounted on the knocker and that was ace

Sounds an interesting project though and would be a handy unit for awkward jobs that big setups couldn't entertain.

My other thought is whether you might need opposing counterweight. I imagine the dumper is pretty light once skip is removed and think the P30 has a 210kg weight plus weight of telescopic mast etc hanging over the edge might be a bit much for the dumper?

A very interesting project, I was asked for something similar back in the 2000’s for doing paddock fencing!

You can get different pumps, singles and doubles and the doubles can be had in different sizes so a big one and a small one. I dont know how it works with belt drive but direct mount on engine you can get a flange and coupler kit.

I think Protech themselves have to update the pumps when doing the tracked knocker conversion which indicates even on the bigger dumpers the pump isn't up to it.

I'd be uprating that pump as a matter of course, 12l/min is painfully slow. I also strongly suspect the pressure won't be enough.

Is the dumper full hydraulic drive or is it hydrostatic with steering clutches? If the latter I think you'll still be jumping on and off it unfortunately.

It's these factors that have stopped me looking at making a knocker mount on my dumper.

so thread the rope the other way
