I'm looking for people's opinions on what would be better a diesel pedestrian roller or a diesel reversible wacker plate
I haven't got much experience with either I normally would hire 1200 wide ride on rollers but hiring these locally has got more and more expensive recently especially for only a day or two.

What do you want to compact ??
Ped rollers are hard work at the best of times.

And they piss off sideways if you are on a slight camber and turn the vibes on
yep .. and right bar stewards if they drop off an edge .... all in all they are as said .. bloody hard work, but will produce a decent surface given time

They are great on tarmac and will piss all over a Wacker plate for that. They are good on blindings. But subbase is hard work.

It sounds like I might be better sticking with hiring a ride on roller, mainly wanted it for compacting hardcore and stone for small agricultural buildings and yards

Get yourself a 750kg wacker best of both worlds

I have a pedestrian roller and even though it is hard work on a slope I don't find it too bad on the flat, especially if your doing shed bases etc, also one with a wheel at the back would be better than mine to take the weight instead. They aren't the best for corners but if you've managed with a 1200 I doubt you'll have a problem. I use mine for doing short sections of path repairs where I only need it for an hour or two and it's only a day or 2 job where hiring becomes a pain in the arse- sits on the trailer with the 1.8t, typical stuff like this photo

yeh - mine has a leg front and back ... a wheel at the back'd be nice, instead of fighting to keep the leg up, especially going up hill

Yeh. I always find backing it up a slope preferable than being downhill of it

The thing is the Mortimer's with two bars are far far better balanced than the benford/terex/mecalac with the wheel. Used a brand new mecalac the other day and really didn't like it.

Yup. Mine is handy and was cheap enough at £250 plus a few cables.

MBR71 had a wheel at the back, quite often changed for a solid tyre version.
