I've just done a digout where I would of taken mine off I think, nice low build height on an engcon top hitch is going to give the machine some tearout back.
Also think 6feetdown is on s40 on 3t which would be nice to take off I guess

My Engcon is only an issue with the 300mm bucket. I have their 300mm deep dig bucket which gets close to 1m deep before there is an issue. The 600mm bucket is fine. I don’t have a 450mm bucket on the little machine. From memory a think it is fine on 8tonne machine but dig so few 450mm trenches I can’t actually remember!!
I going to be looking for a 750mm S30 at some point as it looks like new foundation widths are coming now the cavity wall is getting wider!!

Just thinking. Can you do a bolt on hitch that I can change between S30 and S45. Bucket size that would be a little small for the 8 and a little big for the 3ton. Or am I peeing down my own leg?

turn the centre 152 mm of the pins down to 30mm before welding in ... the S45 is 292 between the cheeks so plenty for the hitch to grip on -- 70mm per side

Maybe you could have a removable front pin so you can replace it with a dumbbell’d pin, and a set of bosses so you can insert rear pin for the S30?
Or maybe you could have separate top hats that fitted on like a Klac hitch? With a big bolt or two to keep it in place?
But I imagine with all the frigging around to make it possible, extra materials and weight, to still have a compromise on both machines, it would cost nearly as much as two dedicated buckets that suited both machines.

I was thinking separate top hats. Compromise on Bucket size on the range between the two will be the biggest issue.

the front pin'd have to be a removable 30mm as the ctrs have 150mm difference ... only the pin closest to the machine'd need to be machined down and the 'back' 45mm pin could stay in place, when on the S30.

Too big a size difference in my opinion, s45 is a huge pickup hitch compared to s30.

To be honest I think it wouldn't work! even a compromise of say a 6 ton size would be to big on your 3 ton. Il we if i can post a comparison photo
