Weird detail. Why is it suspended?

Not suspended, ground bearing slab overrunning onto foundations. I was told it is really bad practice and shouldn't be done. I don't see why not as the concrete can easily bare the weight of the inside wall but the architect on the job got in a right strop when I asked if we could poor up to external skin as it would make our lives easier.

Every structural engineer I've come across has their own design, which they always try and incorporate from their lovely office without visiting site

The property is from the 1800s and has no foundation of its own (which is to be expected) , so I've now raised my concern to see if the structural engineer proposes anything else, maybe some form of upstand just to cover myself

Normally if it's bearing on the footings it's because it needs to be suspended eg on clay ground with a void under to protect against heave.

If it's just a normal ground bearing slab on type 1 then why go to the extra effort?

I've had a thumb from the moment I bought my first digger, don't like to be without it👍👍
Although at the end of this recent job it all got a bit small and I could definitely see the advantages of a grapple, so that's on the shopping list 😅😅🤦‍♂️👍
What machine is it on?

Full reach on the dx10 in some sh1tty back fill, mill converted 1996 ish this was old pit where waterwheels were some big old beams around. Trying to get a 2mx1.5m pumping station in 😢
That will be an expensive pump ...just priced up a small one to pump à small annex to a tank 😬

If it was suspended I would expect to see more reinforcing. There is only a single layer of a252

Case cx15, kubota kx36-3 before that.
Rsl engineering manual thumbs both times.
Would it not be worth upgrading to the hydraulic one. I think I'd would find the benefit is lost if I had to get out of the cab to get it on the right position. Mine is flicked in and out constantly, even use it for things like hanging bulk bags off to bring the weight closer into the machine. RSL ones are good though. Don't even notice it on there.
