Thanks for your kind words! Glad it’s appreciated! We have had to fight for planning permission to save this one, planners were adamant it shouldn’t be converted(4 separate apps and a appeal) - but if you don’t convert them no one will throw 100k at them to save them!
We are hoping to acquire another site with with 3 similar barns on, but adopted planning policy states we can only convert 1 of the three!! I wish there was more weight on the fact converting them correctly saves them for another 100+ years!!

It's ridiculous when you consider I'm currently on a barn conversion of a concrete atcost barn. Someone else I Know is doing an early 2000's wooden stable. The planning on both was straight through as "barn conversion" is a green light for planners around here

I`ve seen quite a few steel portal frame sheds getting barn conversions recently.
Also noticed some new sheds going up, taller and with steeper pitch roof than normal farm buildings, must be forward planning!

My local area has a ridiculous additional policy covering a wide area which opposes all new builds within it(except I have found a loophole at last!). oh unless your baratt homes or the like and you can build 300+ no problem!!

So towed welfare unit to site the other day, absolutely hateful thing to tow, grab couldn't come yesterday so planned to finish off some concrete pads that had been made ready. Or at least that was the plan till the concrete was a no show.
Re booked for today for 10-11, it turns up closer to 1230. Ask for it not to high slump, driver has other ideas and proceeds to pour wet, stiff, wet again for one. And then for the other small pad just wet. 4 hours later still soft

Yeah volumetric wagon, needed just under 1m3, was in a warehouse yard so not really mixable by hand for the ratios

Hopefully they put strip footings in to begin with as underpinning them is a nightmare

Sounds like the driver wanted educating. Last pour i did in a shed was like water. When it comes like that on ready mix wagon theres not alot you can do

Surrey Sussex border. But know someone doing portal frame conversions in Worcester aswell. The barns where put up with the sole intention of a later conversion.

& why the heck not!! I’ve done the same, only 6 years to go although I’ve got industrial use on them now so may hold off resi for a while!

Dug out for a concrete pad, stoned up and set some shutters, was planning on working at my house but those plans went out the window

I don't think they waited 6 years. I got the impression they applied for the conversion as soon as the barn was erected. May have got it wrong but I got the impression that planning up round that way is a bit corrupt and run by balfor beatty

Class Q is 10 years then you can change use reasonably easily if it meets basic criteria , our local planners and many others seem to find anything to decline this type of permitted development! which is totally wrong as in principle if it meets the basic tick boxes it should just be passed!
