interestingly its come up again: https://arbtalk.co.uk/forums/topic/129219-stihl-communication/#comments they look very good if you using saws etc. but for cab to cab comms as rob says id go for boggo two ways and see how you go. otherwise join the ag lads with CB's. nowt like a 6ft whip to...

Yep awesome. No shouting, good ear protection, Bluetooth.
Working with machines great and safer than trying to get someone's attention by shouting or waving.
Good range although obstacles will affect it

Doing last bits on NT project bit of fencing and gates, left lads to do posts while I was down the hill in machine sorting out drainage.

Not sure how they managed it but got posts for 4’ gate 4’ apart outside edge to outside!

Will need to get a 3’ gate internal face hang it with big hinge lol, in there defence this is the boulder farm huge rocks just under the surface

Did they not have the gate there. I normally hang gate the put clapper post in after. I'm no expert

big moment on site this week, started with the windows and 99% of the pointing is complete.. been a slog but well worth it! Well over 400 bricks replaced and lots of big sections rebuilt, tested the lads patience for sure!
Internal studs nearly done then it’s wiring and then insulation time, and back onto Groundworks while the plasterers go crazy inside!

An interesting ditching job
As usual with these, a certain amount of clearance has to be done before you can crack on with cleaning out and re profiling the ditch
Did you also set the job of clearing the overgrazing trees and crap?
Recently been doing ditches myself - see my blog
And couldn’t start until the land owned had got a flail in the cut back and remove the overgrown hedge etc

How did you go about getting the re-pointing done?
We have to quote for some re-pointing on a large old building.
But none of the local ‘go to’ trades are interested
I have always thought that re-pointing is done by a semi-retired builder topping up his pension with beer money

1MW standard, in bulk bags pre mixed just knock it up in the mixer - the lads love it as there is no hassle putting a mix on in the morning, anything left gets chucked back in the bulk bag and sealed up so no waste! While building has taken 2 bulk bags, minus an extension which isn’t built yet. Google pointing specialists in your area, normally someone around and about!


@V8Druid I use the plastic bags the guttering comes in as a temporary down pipe , that part had scaffold up last week, it’s easier than trying to get a 4” drain pipe weaved through

Really is a beautiful building with really lovely brick work. There is something about old brick buildings and walls, built with white lime mortar, and traditional brick bonds (common bond in this instance i believe) with decorative details. Such a shame that the skills and knowledge to build this way are so under appreciated! Sadly now we have to mostly look at rendered concrete block, painted with 'cornish cream' sandtex, or some kind of stone veneer on a souless new build estate. Well done and thank you for an excellent restoration! Most people would have knocked it down and put 3 new builds in its place.

Yes we cut back what was asked, then yesterday started building the bank up with a huge pile of previous excavated material where the big machine is sat. Then client came home changed his mind and asked for bank to be removed but a bigger area built up, plus clear more undergrowth and trees.
Times like this I wish I had a thumb on the mini

Thanks for your kind words! Glad it’s appreciated! We have had to fight for planning permission to save this one, planners were adamant it shouldn’t be converted(4 separate apps and a appeal) - but if you don’t convert them no one will throw 100k at them to save them!
We are hoping to acquire another site with with 3 similar barns on, but adopted planning policy states we can only convert 1 of the three!! I wish there was more weight on the fact converting them correctly saves them for another 100+ years!!
