Machine with no buckets and ec02 are a whisker over £45k plus 9.5k vat plus 10.5k finance cost over 5 years. 4 buckets and a grab are 3.2k from elsewhere. Finance works out something like £800 per month over 5 years
What are finance rates currently?

Thank you. So I am guessing that is around £30k machine and 15k engcon.
As much as I love my Engcon on the old kubota, I don’t think I want to swallow that much to upgrade to get an EC02 rather than my push the foot pedal.
Have you gone direct mount or 2nd hitch? Is it ec-oil on the grab?

I think its direct mount but If I'm honest i got pretty confused with all the permutations and realised that dealing with engcon directly was a big waste of money. they wanted £20k plus vat with 3 buckets. (the grading bucket they offer is £960+VAT on its own.......) I wanted the engcon through jcb finance with the digger so just told my local dealer to talk with the rep from engcon.

I find it hard to understand why the engcon is cheaper when you add a middle man in.

The engcon grab they offered me was north of £4k which i really cant justify -and it was explained that there is a port on the unit to connect hydraulics to so i dont think that would have been ec-oil, the one I'm getting isn't.

The grab isn't going to be an on/off thing throughout the day. it will just be for specific jobs that are infrequent. I dont see the reason to complicate things in this situation because it will be out of warranty in 2 years with out many hours on it really.

I think you’re crazy to want to hire something like that out self drive. Leave that to the big companies with machines bought in bulk that they don’t care about.

That is for you to decide!! I always think I undercharge but my problem is the hours I work, or don’t!!
Had I good run on the 8ton. That goes out at £45 an hour.
The 3ton is usually around £35 depending on job

You need to work out your costs.you’re at least a tenner short on your 3 ton rates.
local hire company been hiring 3 ton on self drive at £130 a day and recently gone up a lot.and yes I know there are cheaper deals out there for weeks hire, anyway 30 litres of white getting on for £60 and you have to drive to garage to fill cans,or I do.£150 day for driver which ain’t a lot and your up to £340 day.add 20% for profit, wet days, holidays, machine replacement etc etc etc and you can see where it gets you to.then add transport on top.scary figure I know but still plent of people about earning peanut and allways someone down the road doing it for £25 hour.just read the cost of 3 tonner and engcon on another post.no good being a busy fool and ending up with a worn out machine and no money to replace it.

Interesting to see your comments especially about the fuel. In fairness, doing what I do when on the digger I don’t burn 10liters a day!! I have been looking at my overhead lately but my problem is that I don’t get to work enough hours due to other commitments. That has been changing so getting the hours on the 8ton machine rather than the little one has made a useful impact the last 4 weeks. I don’t want to be flat out on the digger burning fuel. So putting the work in on the projects I do gives me a return on my time and investment that I am happy with.

In my area bucks/beds/ herts the average rate for a modern well equipped 3 ton with operator is £350.00 all in 8 hrs .
That is the minimum I charge , some days I burn as little as 10 ltrs others a full tank 30 ltrs .
Some days it's a little over half a day some I stay and finish it , winners and losers .
I think you need to factor in with the maths the cost of the machine not the one day hire rate a local self drive is charging if we could all get £130.00 a day 5 days a week the profit would be great .
They charge it because it's very hard to get it everyday as it has to be collected and turned round ready for the next day so they charge in my opinion for it may be achieving 3 separate hires a week but we do turn it round and get back out the next day.
My machine costs me approx £50.00 a day to run excluding diesel , so on my maths there is a bit of profit there that helps .
It pays for the hr washing it at 17.30 after starting of in the yard at 07.00 !

it would just be to local builders who I know are sensible. the 1.2 tonne micro comes back from them cleaned, greased and with a full tank( ok its only 10 litres), they do seem to look after it as well as i would do. just seems a shame to have it idle but i have work booked in until sept 2024 that isnt going to put many hours on it. after that I'll take on more digger work than i do at the moment

Half days £250.00 and if you are lucky get 2 in a day !
In 3 years I have managed it 3 times and once got 3 in .
All 3 breaker jobs for builders and all within 5 miles if only it was more often lol .
The rates I charge depend on the type of work , builders £350.00 then upwards .
Agriculture fencing contractors are my worst customer s the machine is flat out , rough terrain in the bushes and trees normally lots of mud and I burn a tank then have to get back and spend an 1.5 hr cleaning it always a tarmac job the next day so charge accordingly. I keep getting their work so I suppose it's working

are you getting good use from the breaker? i always seem to use the digger to scrape up what i break with a sledge or hilti te3000avr because most of the breaking i do is only 4 inch thick floor slabs

Probably average once a week and the time used ranges from half an hr to rarely more than 3 hrs .
If it is a regular customer I dont charge if it's only an hr or so otherwise £65.00 a day I bought a secondhand one supposedly refurbished lasted 2 years then into dr pecker for a rebuild !
It is just about paid for now so fingers crossed I may see a profit from it .
I would not be with out one .
The best attachment I have bought is a ripper never go out with out it use it most days .

Lost interest once bobcat gave a price of 29k, although to be honest would rather defecate on my hands and clap than hand more money to bobcat/doosan.
Might be cutting my nose off to spite my face but have no faith in their kit

So with a grab on machines own proportional controls how would you operate the grab
Bought a brand new machine from Bobcat 18 months ago and has a total of 0 issues.

Might be a good one, my dx10z seen the fitter and back to to the workshop for a few shitty issues, mostly leaking hydraulic pump and a load of play in all the pins around kingpost, a couple replaced twice, plus three attempts to get the bonnet lock to work, two track rollers and probably some other bits
