I've always wondered what the load limit was for the tailgate on the Dmax. I had 400kg and myself (100kg) on it the other day loading the tracked carrier with the ramp. No problem! Today one of my ex employees who's returned for a bit of subby work found the limit. Less than 900kg!
We had a dumpy of 803 in the back that was so frozen the micro wouldn't break it up, so tried to pull it out the back over the tailgate. I now need a new tailgate as it basically folded downwards after the bracing bar. I rushed off and ordered one off ebay.. and now just remembered that father has a brand new one somewhere that came off his when he had a full top hinge door fitted to his at the dealers. Fuckit. Might have a spare now.

Older hilux's used a hinged linkage for the tailgate stay but now use cables. Great when new but after 10 years of being folded 180 deg when you shut the tailgate they begin to break. I found out tipping the 160kg wacker over the edge of the tailgate and down a plank. Luckily only one side broke and i managed to push the wacker back onto the bed and avoid any other damage. Gave up on that idea and just lift it out every time now, was the only time i ever tried it down a plank

I always wonder why we don't have other options instead of a tailgate like the americans do. Some of their trucks have a second hinge so they can fold all the way down without hitting the tow bar. But the best I've seen is one that can fold down traditionally or be barn doors. Considering how many pickups in the UK are not used as pickups I would have thought barn doors, to give better access to the bed from the ground, would be a huge selling point.

It’s bent the whole tailgate across the width. Some delicate percussive maintenance enabled it to be reshaped sufficiently to get it closed. It won’t open again now.
I’d like an aluminium tipper body but not sure I want to pay for one.

My 4x4 tipper has been way more useful that I could ever have imagined. It means bulky things are easy to move offroad, it doubles up as a surprisingly good site dumper for small jobs, particularly over long distances where it's quick. It also gives you plenty of space for attachments when movings things like the MultiOne- I can easily fit a bucket, grab and forks in the back along with some diesel and probably another pallets worth of stuff if required!

I wouldn't discount it on the grounds of cost alone.

I haven't used an Isuzu but on my rangers and hiluxes I use to drop the tailgate right down before doing anything like that

We had a lad drop a pallet on a kerb and could’ve get the forklift to reverse. I went to have a look and when he’d tilted the forks, the foot of the mast had caught the kerb edge and lifted his front wheels off the floor.

my favourite method of getting the front wheels off an FLT ... jack it with the mast on a suitable block
