LPG

I’m keeping the house as a rental once I’ve built mine so it is relevant and I’m familiar with kero so i understand how that works . Locally LPG has not been as widely accepted and I’ve also seen a lot of LPG tanks removed hence my scepticism.
Surely there is some way to work out how much more LPG you will burn in comparison to Kero to deliver the same heat in percentage terms . Then that can be multiplied by the price per litre to get a realistic comparison. If it’s close then no point in switching to Kero until boiler plays up but if as I initially suspected that kero works out quite a bit cheaper then It might be better to switch now
I think one of the main reasons lpg isn't as widely used as kero other than cost is the fact that you are tied to a supplier, even though a lot of kero users are probably loyal to one supplier.
I guess the best thing for you is to live with it for a while so you can see what the usage and cost is like. Whatever they may tell you oil boiler technology is still decades old, however they arrange the heat exchanger and have made them condensing appliances the burners are basically as they were over 50 year ago. Gas boilers genuinely did move forward a step with modulating burners provided the rest of the heating system is relatively up to date so potentially lpg could be the cheaper fuel.
I dunno where its at cost wise, years back when parents house was at the point of new boiler etc we went oil rather than lpg mainly because tank installation etc could be done ourselves and cost at the time was less.

Uncle has LPG all I've ever heard him do is complain...about prices and fact deliveries are crapas you tied to one supplier like Gaz says . He was without gas for a week one winter..least kero you can chuck a few 25ls in if things get dire.

I wish you wouldn’t , I need an answer to my issue ! Which fuel is most cost effective when your heating a house from a buried garden tank ? Also roughly what percentage is one better than the other ? My options are I stick with LPG tank and 16 year old boiler or I renew boiler for a new kero boiler and locate the kero tank in a better location and reclaim the bit of garden the buried LPG tank is in . If the running costs are that close it would be likely not worth removing the LPG but if there is a significant saving using kero then it may be worth considering switching
stick with the gas ,boilers are a bit cheaper than oil boilers ,alot smaller and dont stink

Or lift end of tank up and put a brick under, just remember to take it out before it's filled.

You will obviously have thought about what the cooker runs on?
If I were you and it's only temporary accommodation then leave it as is, you'll never get back the set up costs in the time you're in it.
We're on LPG, but as i've never had oil can't give a comparison. There is a standing charge on the tanks, you won't get that on oil.
We shopped around and got ourselves locked into a fixed price contract Autumn 2021, when it came to fill up time this Autumn they ramped the price right up. When questioned they pointed to the small print which said that if gas went up by over X amount then the contract was void

One thing i've noticed is that showers, baths and cooking barely use any gas compared to the heating. We'll get through from Autumn to Spring when the gauge will be on red, it'll then go until Autumn on before needing to be filled using something like 5%.

my 3 x 2000ltr tanks in work were 50 quid a quarter .... same if I'd had 1 or 6 of 'em ... fabricated the base frame for them and 'sold' it to Flogas ... saved putting down a large level concrete slab

assume you've a gas combi? ... it won't use a lot for those or cooking ...... but'll really get through it warming the heating system's water ... do you keep it ticking over at a low setting, between heat demand when you're in need of warming the house or let it turn off? getting it back up from cold takes a lot of heat .... back from 10-ish, no where near as much ;)

Yes it's a combi, it comes on two hours in the morning, two hours at night. She has an electric heater in her office and the log burner is on in the evening.
What i'd really like to do is get us on used engine oil, but the boilers available in this country are a bit rubbish really. They're into it in a much bigger way in the US and sell some fantastic kit out there.

they sell all sorts of fantastic kit in the states, we can only dream of here :mad::mad:

so heating from cold each time with the burner at full chat :(

used/waste oil use, for heating/burning in a heater, is a license-able operation in the UK these days ... came in several years ago ... hence the demise of the good old salamander in many a workshop

sorry that's Jock and Paddy land reg.s, for small waste oil burners
"Is it illegal to burn waste oil in a SWOB?
...... regulation changes made in 2016 mean it is now illegal to burn waste oil in a SWOB unless a permit is obtained under Schedule 13A of the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2010 at a cost of £3218 for the application and annual an fee of £1,384.":oops:

That's what ur meant to do and if you've applied for the licence you've basically committed to doing it as they know you are burning oil
moral to that one is, don't apply .. DWYL :giggle::giggle: ....... we're being regulated out of existence :mad:
