I was using my grab on the 8 tonner the other day to tidy up the yard and I have to say I just can't take to it all. I've used selector grabs to on other machines and fine myself getting frustrated. Can't be doing with all the swapping around. Can't dig out stumps with it, anything that I want to do with it feels like it's would be rough on the rotate like wrestling a large rock out of a pile. So yeah it's great for handling timber and rehandling rocks but then that's about it. Job I'm about to start in a week's time. I'll be clearing scrub, digging out boulders, raking and pilling up a large area of bramble, digging out an access track clearing trees as we go etc. Got an 2 acres of fallen willow to clear and burn etc, dig out all the stumps etc.Now I know if I had a thumb on this machine I could turn up and do all of that with nothing but thumb and the biggest digging bucket, perhaps a narrow bucket for when it comes to piling up timber. But I dont so it's going to be endless swapping between digger buckets and the grab. Then I think about the price of that grab new (£8k) and the price of a thumb (£1k). Just doesn't add up for me. More stuff to bring along on the lorry too
