I have a feeling we agree quite a lot except on colour.

As for offering the very simple system, I can certainly see your thoughts behind it.... and am in no way running down anyone's decision for going that way.... it's there money..... and it dont grow on trees.

The smaller units have proven very popular this year... with most people going for proportional systems.... especially to run grabs etc.

Although you miss the chance to spec it yourself, when the current 8 tonner is replaced It will be for an already sorted unit, I dont really have the time or want the hassle of sorting it myself so will be looking for the easy option and searching out a well sorted used one like the U48 Ross has for sale, chances are someone whos had a few will have it specced correctly (better than i prob would) and all the niggles that mean downtime (leaks etc ) will be sorted out.

You can still finance a entry level unit Graham? I can’t speak for the others, but engcon do do some very attractive packages for end users, no matter what your after, whether it be a unit or buckets and hitch combinations.

I obviously didn’t explain my thoughts clearly. It was not whether you could afford a a better system, but whether the extra cost would not be able to be recouped in the increased hire rate or increased performance. Like most things the cost of squeezing the ultimate performance out of something goes up exponentially compared to just good or great performance.
I haven’t looked at finance specifically for tilties, but it makes sense for manufacturers to offer good deals. I can’t believe how many tilties you see about. There seem to be some on most big sites I pass. That and I saw another Walker today, first time ever (I would have stopped for a chat, but it was in the roadworks on the M27 and I didn’t think anyone would appreciate me blocking a lane). I make my money out of being different, now other people are going different as well.

But it would be able to be recouped in the value of the unit, with it been a more attractive unit to be passed on, here or abroad.

as has been said before .... you don't run a Ferrari just to drive to work ... and you certainly do not need its performance for the school run

I'm not advocating everyone abandons their electronically controlled prop. systems ..... just don't deride what is a perfectly functional alternative, that will do almost everything the ECPSs'll do and for significantly less outlay ...... what's more ... when the bombs start to fall and the magentic pulse-wave has taken out all the electronics .... you'll still be able to dig a round hole to hide in .... from one stand

I appreciate that you are allowed your own opinion, Graham and that it often drifts into speculation; but this is one of those occasions where you should have stopped typing.

Firstly the ad clearly states the price when new - £15990. I'm not what sure the original owner (in this case NASCO load indicators of Southend-on-Sea - one of our Engcon Service Partners) would think about your imputation, but for the avoidance of doubt - and the reassurance of anyone here who might consider purchasing this unit - the 10 hours use is a) genuine and b) very light indeed. NASCO bought this from us and used it as a demo on their SANY but, after some deliberation, we jointly decided to swap it for a EC02 and a grab instead. This was much the same debate that I had with Ollie @Gunners in the specification of his EC02 for his 8026. He originally wanted a gripper, but the (permanent) weight of the EC204 against the lighter unit and a grab were decisive factors in the overall choice. I'll make the point again - asking the headline price and making a decision on that factor alone seldom results in the right call.

I did honestly think of hitting the 'Report' button here Graham. As an ex-businessman, you will know the cost of reputational damage. You know me personally - we've met here at Tewkesbury - and you could have picked up the phone and asked.

You wouldn't want to buy them as spares that's for sure.... would cost you alot more than that price going that way

be nice to think it Aiden, but when I was 'building', best I was quoted was 1200 quid a Cetop, plus the Vodka and needed three plus a manifold ... and that was without the necessary driver units ..... then I'd need roller stick tops too ..... so your £4k box of goodies is an extremely attractive proposition

I'm calling it and saying you'd have to budget £25k for a setup on that size of machine. But I'm always ready to hear other people's experience.

I haven't read the rest of the thread yet but I'll say your not a million miles away. If asked, I tell folk to budget 30k for an all singing install on a 13-16t machine.
Some will scream they can do it cheaper, others might say that's conservative so would you rather budget 30k and end up with everything you want for £28750 or budget £24k and end up with nothing like what you expected and a final bill of £29k ?

As a long time user of tiltrotators I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to understand what you need, what you WANT! and what you can afford!

If you focus on the cost and the pain to your wallet, it simply will not work out as a viable proposition.
Once you can see past the cost ( I'm not dismissing it ) and understand how a tiltrotator of any sort or colour can benefit your business then you are winning.

As with cars, washing machines and holidays, there are a lot of options to pick through before one finds the right choice. There is a wealth of information on line, via social media and directly from end users.

Ask the questions, get answers, make an informed choice.

Some decent info there Rob, and a good few points made.
It really is like any thing.. see a new car you like advertised as £18999 and think oh I like the look of that, only to go to the dealership and enquire and tick a few boxes and come out with a quote of £24995!!
It's the same as tiltrotators, and one reason you wont see any of us dealers butting up specific prices. Cos sure as anything we would get the call asking.. how come you told him X but you quoted me Y!
I'm sure Robert @Engconuk will agree.. some little options that may not sound alot can change the price by a couple of grand!
