have had 'em all from S1 right through to 90,s/110,s/130,s and they're all a love / hate relationship ... ran a S3 and trailer for years, as a 'work vehicle' when I started and that old girl carried some stuff.

Deffo the early ones were more work horses than later, early Range Rover to a point as well, you did need a bit of an understanding of them as they were not indestructible as some seem to think. I went on a test ride at bovington tank training area with a Land Rover test/ demonstrator driver in a mid 1980s Range Rover it really was an experience he knew the car and its capability's I was impressed to say the least. He didn't do anything damaging to the vehicle but it was not far short of it. For open diffs on loose sandy gravel it would go some places opened my eyes to their capability and never once felt on the edge or unsafe. Need a mortgage to buy one now if your daft enough.

Chatting to a mate today...he was in his new van...leccy Peugeot, transporter size thing.
Said it claims 200mile range.
Any weight and some speed and 100miles if you lucky.
Asked him why ...oh we sick of customers asking us about environmental policy and other shite so we got one to tick the box...rest of the deliveries done in his fleet of sprinters etc

It’s driven by the desire to be neutral etc. Huge savings in europe for it in certain country’s aka 50% of the difference between normal machine vs electric tax reclaim.. plus the added benefit of if you have it you hire it.

20 tonnes and below are going electric very quickly or at least electric models released

I was however privy to some pricing indications at bauma for most of the leccy gear…. It’s not cheap at all… Bomag indication is mental for a 120 roller. They said battery’s are expensive, they have a 20kwh battery . I pointed out my mrs car has a 60kw battery and air con and infotainment and 3 year warranty etc and is over half the price……..

It’s not sustainable but is comming

The prices are ridiculous on this newish tech, Friend of mine had a chap come into his garage with a Tesla a couple of weeks ago, It had battery problems and the bill was going to be £35k he said scrap it ! Very eco friendly not! Last year he had a hybrid come in with problems and the price to sort it was ridiculous so he also scrapped that one the owners just walk away its ridiculous. It makes my 53 plate Mondeo diesel owned from new that I get on a run 45-50 mpg a far more eco frienndly than a newish electric car! I went out in a Tesla the other day and it did nothing for me, Yes it was quick but thats where it all ended for me its a Geeks car with a giant IPad for a dashboard all for the princly sum of 80k no thanks

It's not about being sustainable. It's about tax tax tax and more tax. Tax incentives to get you to buy overpriced (over taxed) "greener" leccy cars vans trucks diggers etc gets more money going round in the economy. It may not actually make a stronger more financially stable economy with a happy comfortable population but who cares.

Quite a few years ago my mate borrowed a people carrier from his brothers forecourt and we took a trip down to Wales to look at a Daewoo and Case1088, He ran it on a mixture of Diesel and heating oil which worked out at about 30p a gallon it did smell a bit but it was a very cheap trip to Wales, ( we didn,t buy either machine)!

have a friend who built a system for Woodgas into the back of a fwd control landy, supplying an original fit 8.13CR, V8 ..... worked well but did niff a bit indoors
