In reality it`s just lip service, so the government can be seen to be doing something about the `driver shortage`
Christmas is just around the corner in logistics terms, if there are shortages, government can say "not our fault we`ve done x,y and propose z"

I passed mine in 99 so missed out on trailer and 7.5 ton, first week of driving I was doing garden for my sister in Warrington going up the m56 everyday in our 814 merc no restrictor and double tanks so luckily filled it just before fuel crisis I was only one on roads. Wasn’t till about 4 years later worked out couldn’t drive 7.5 ton on my license lol

Same for trailers towed for 18 years before doing the test getting 1 minor on it for speeding then they got rid of it lol 😂

Yep that’d do it!Asit currently stands there’s too much paperwork, hassle, expense and dead time involved in running a small lorry for any of us whose use is minimal and only really for our own convenience and increased safety. We have a restricted O license but it just is’nt worth ot as things currently stand. It would even be reasonable to have annual mileage restrictions applied or similar.

In France (at present) we only have annual test for HGV and no o license so it's a much simpler option to run a truck and be done with all the weight hassle.

They don't half know how to embroil people in a load of shite nowadays.

Annual mileage restrictions would be pointless if you are trying to reduce paperwork!! 6 monthly test and enforcement would be far easier as @JD450A

Simply put, all the paperwork, enforcement and application creates employment for people how can’t or won’t do a proper job!!!

A 7.5t would be pretty handy for all us chaps running 2.8tonners. could either put the digger on the bed and tow all the attachments to keep it legal or the other way round, but either way far better then all this ridiculous loading everything to within an inch of its life that we all do. Yeah I'd love it and then just have a van for nipping around and carrying tools

Wouldn't even need a vehicle and trailer.
This should carry a 2.7t machine buckets and also Wacker plate and tools
