used to use a big old Makita breaker on real stubborn buggers ... and if that didn't do it a strategically placed crane leg foot pad

Last week we cleaned up my brother's Cherry Picker that he has stored here because I wanna use it :p

......the banks of 24v batteries have all sulphated up so I decided to change them. But we had to do some refurb stuff on the carrier first.....

I scrubbed it up with Mr. Angle-Grinder and Ryan applied some left over rattle can Tish....

Yep another pair will just about fit on that carrier 😎
Mind you I would probably renew all the cables. The originals and Anderson are a complete bodge up 🥸

Yep this size carrier will accommodate 4 every which way and nice a snug.
The previous set up was. complete bodge with 4 x small car batteries and a tacked on frame to hold them
The trick is now to convince my brother to buy another 2
But at least we have got it ready for use when the weather gets cooler

I wouldn’t be surprised if the original setup was 4x 6v deep cycle batteries.

How are you charging them?
Hi Steve, that's a great question and something which I want to address.
Any advice most welcome ;)
At the moment it has a crappy old Sealey 12/24v charger.....
IMG_8080.jpeg

.......whilst I try and be careful not to overcharge, it's not foolproof.
After a short 'min' charge yesterday for a few hours, it started at about 6A dropping back to about 2A.
By this time the individual readings were about 15.4v and gassing well
Ideally I'd like to install a 'smart charger' of some description.
This would give the advantage of not overcharging whatever bank of batteries are installed :geek:

Hi James, yes that would make sense. We obviously want something reliable. But my brother ain't gonna fund that
When I used it a few month ago with the failing batteries, I nearly got stuck boomed out over the neighbours garden trimming my trees 🤣

Yes I can understand that, the proper batteries are well north of £100 each now I imagine.

Forget my last comment! They’ve gone up considerably since I last had any….

The local scrap yard use to get in batteries from data storage centres. Big deep cycle batteries that where changed every year regardless of condition they sold them on for a quid each.

I know what you mean about the overcharging & it is difficult to balance it with charging it fast enough to be useable as well.
