Stothert & Pitt TXR120 leaking hydraulics

Afraid it’s looking like a drum out first job, jack the roller frame just behind the drum, undo hoses both sides, and all the 24 mm bolts, you may have to lift thee roller frame some more once the drum is loose, then roll it out.

Right then….drum out. Not too bad a job, probably easier if I’d had a second pair of hands.

So I’ve got the break off the drum. Removed the snap rings. Before I go cranking on it with a puller, any idea which bits should separate. It looks like the square plate should pull off the shaft.

looks like the square plate is shouldered against the circular housing with the bearing in it .... looking at your earlier pix I'd guess it dismantles from t'other end

Put the whole thing in a press or big vice, holding the square plate across top and bottom and on the outside hold from top to bottom between the 6 bolts, find yourself some threaded rod I think M8 and some nuts, remove two cap head bolts and replace with two 150 mm threaded rods, run the nuts down to hold in place whilst undoing the other bolts, fit two more threaded rods 150 mm Wind each nut off a little at a time, you only need to create a gap big enough to remove the sealing o ring, and fit a new one, make sure it’s stuck in with some grease before bolting back together, if you join the two drive hoses together and put the pipe back on the brak you can test it before it all goes back together!

how do you get the new o-ring in behind the threaded rods Mick ?
looking at the pix above Dixie already has all the cap heads out?

If he winds the nuts to the end of the threaded rod, the brake pack will be unloaded and able to pull apart, if it’s in a vice or press leave the nuts at the ends, for safety, and let go of the press or vice, inspect the brake pack parts, replace the o rings, rebuild.

understand what you're saying but looks like he has already removed the cap heads and it hasn't sprung apart

The outer bolts are removed first, take all parts out, the rear half has its own bolts internally.

yes its not sprung apart as the shaft goes through the middle with bearing pressed each end?

Chaps, for now I've deleted the brake assembly as this can be refitted without removing the drum. One for later.

The problem I now have it i can't find a replacement hydraulic filter for one of the filters. No markings on the outside of the filter. The housing is marked with SPM155005 on the inside. Thread width is 1.5 inches in diameter. If anyone knows anyone who i can contact as I've drawn a blank with my local suppliers and some oneline. The keep asking for the machine specs and I don't have them.

Just as a bit of further info, the filter is fitted after the tank before the pump. I think this puts it on the flow side as the connection comes from the bottom of the tank and return lines look like the come in at the top.

I'm in a bind since to remove the filter it needed some help which means there is a hole in the old filter, so I now have a big paper weight as I can't run the machine at all until I get a new filter.

that's a hell of a big spin on ....
presumably this is plumbed into the system, so could you not replace the whole assembly, with a new unit which has more readily available replacement filters?
unusual to have much more than a gauze strainer on the pick up/feed outlet from the tank .... usually filtered on the return to tank side of the system

i think I'm going down the replacement housing route but wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas. Do you know what type of filtration (micron) level typically used on rollers? is there a comparable machine I could look at, say Bomag?

does it have a return filter .... as said, the outlet is usually only a gauze

It has two canister style filters in the system. I’ve not found any gauze filter.

If you know the part number they are excellent. If you don’t you tend to get a ‘computer says no’ response.
