Cheapest and easiest will be hedge of prickly thorn kind but will take longest to be secure.

I've toy'd with building a bund... Could loose a few thousand tons of muck and earn some money... But loose a good 10m of yard in the process then there is the maintenance issue.

Looking more and more like Prickly Bushes will be called for.... I can buzz my side off with my Flail when required.

My Granda planted A wall of fir trees round the yard 11 year ago, thought he was mad at the time but there starting to come good now. Tallest one will be about 15feet I would say. Then had a bund of Muck infront of them also takes up a good bit of space as you say.

If going for prickly bushes put some dog rose it makes black thorn and Hawthorne look like cotton wool probably the worst stuff to get through and it will quickly grow up and spread through fencing

berberis ..... grows quick, is evil stuff, with spikes that are like hypodermics ..... no one in their right mind will attempt getting through it ... grows 2-3 ft a season 3 years'd give you an impenetrable barrier

Horrific stuff - we call it onion bahji plant (stick it through a chipper and it comes out bright yellow and looks like the insides of a bahji). Best dealt with with a mulcher, nasty nasty nasty!

Yep, that's exactly what I did with some a few years ago.
