I seem to remember an article in Earthmovers about a company that adapted a dozer for an operator that had some form of issue.

A few years ago there was a similar set up on, I think, a Volvo at one of the plant shows. I was speaking to one of the guys involved in the conversion. What he was saying was as a stand alone conversion it was obviously expensive, but if you were having a machine fitted with a lifting cab anyway the extra was minimal as it was only a slight alteration to the geometry to get the cab to go down slightly below level to reach the ground. Their conversion came down between the tracks so it didn't need to power out as well. That was developed for disabled access, but the extra cost was so little they were hoping to sell it for general use as a health and safety thing not having to climb on the machine for access.
I'm also sure there are grants available to adapt the workplace for disabled employees.

Yeah why wouldn’t you? It would only work on very specific sites, and I’m sure H&S would have to be involved in terms of means of escape etc.
Plus you’d need a really reliable driver to invest so much into a machine, it’d be bloody typical that you’d convert a machine for them to leave for someone else for 25p a hour more

simple answer is yes if they were a valued employee. Hard for a small firm to take the costs, large outfits should really be made to do this if they take public sector money.

Why should someone be told they cant do a job just because they are unlucky enough to be disabled.

I bet they are some operators as well, see people with no arms writing with their feet etc, amazing dexterity.

Look up harmless farmer on youtube, guy lost his arms young but it doesn't seem to slow him down, have even seen him thread 10mm nuts with his toes!!

When I took my HGV course back in 1982 First few days I really struggled with the AEC box. The instructor got a bit pee’d off and said “the guy I had last week was a thalidomide victim. He had no forearms and he could still change gear on the bloody thing. Now tell me it’s too hard.” Never forgot that.
