Talk to me about vans gents

I used to run a transit medium wheelbase medium height for the lads to use, had it racked out with everything we needed day in day out, sold it in Jan as I didn’t want to drive it everyday over my amorak.

So looking for a high roof, medium to long wheelbase. With decent tow ability for 3 big lads, plan is to rack 1 side all way then gave pod just behind sliding door.

Means you can have wet weather gear in bit by door, maybe fit a awning like bt used to have.

Also want something with bit of poke not the base spec Amazon vans, looking used though 6-10k ideally something that can also pull mini digger etc

So what make and models should I be looking at?

Sprinter 318,316?

I guess it’s prime in the convert to motorhome territory as well

Crazy prices and supply issues ATM...
I'd wait if you can as I feel there may deals to be had....😉

We got a swb Iveco Daily panel van a few months ago,pretty rare in swb but more m and lweb about,it’s been good,tows 3.5,had our kx 61 and 3 ton dumpers behind,pulls well,comfortable,nice thing really.But prices for anything decent are pretty lairy at the minute.

@pettsy dont want a welfare van, need the ton of tools we need to do Groundworks and building work, will have to pretty much stay packed all the time. With just back changing be it mixer whacker etc or even bulk bag

And shortest is 6’ biggest is 6’6

Don't complain - suggest what's better
All the Iveco dailys tow 3.5t and have plenty of room in the cab. But good ones make good money. There is so much demand from couriers you are not likely to get any bargins.

The new shape transits will happily accommodate them in the front.
And we work out of a similar setup but use a twin cab tipper. If racked out sensibly then it can easily accommodate all day to day tools. Then we have Wacker. Breaker pack and mixer on the back. Can carry 6m lengths of pipe 4m lengths of 2x4 plus loose aggregates is easy. Could do with a couple of under body toolboxes and is obviously rather heavy. A non tipper version would be better as in reality the tipper never gets used.

Been looking into vans lately, as well. I end up wanting everything - 4x4 / 3.5tow / med height/mwb.. very very thin on the ground!!
A awning would be mega, only issue I’d see is getting the van to where your working most the time and also the van ends up right next to all the materials so will end up battered - I like to park out of the way of site movements etc!

I see it more like getting waterproofs on out the rain and mud, being able to leave side door open without rain going in etc or sitting on side step for lunch,

Will have small generator etc for kettle washing and microwave and charging

Most our jobs are out the way so will put some at tyres on even 2 wheel drive.

Don’t need 3.5 ton as I gave my pickup just occasional tow mini or micro etc or 1 ton dumper

I have a transit tipper that’s privately used. No way would I want one for work, especially full of tools as they’re far too easy to open and steal. Same goes for the vans. Next year I’d like to move my T5 on, and step up to a mwb crafter/man tge, maybe something like this www.eBay.co.uk/itm/284968834762

Towing you want a 350 RWD really. For that kind of money you'll get decent spec transit that's 7-10 years old... we've tried movanos recently and they are good. Our dually RWD tows heavy better than any Transit... most 350 Transits will only be plated for 2800kg

Gas company’s like these short wheel base high spec vans usually with big towing capacity for minis and they are usually well looked after.
I’d of gone for one myself but I need the MWB
