Why the need for a skills bootcamp?

Hi all,

Been looking for a career change and have been offered a place on a 360 operator course which is funded by the government through their skills bootcamp. Whilst I'm not one to turn down a free training course, I'm struggling to work out why they are offering this course for free as I can't find anything suggesting there is a shortage of 360 operators? A search for jobs in my region doesn't turn up loads of results and most of them want experienced operators anyway, so I don't expect doing the course will lead me straight into a job (which I thought was the point of these skills bootcamps) without getting some experience as a labourer/assistant for a while.

Am I just looking in the wrong place and there is a shortage?

Your mistake is assuming that the government knows what it's doing!

Now is a terrible time to try to become a 360 op. The big boys are laying off all their operators as new builds dry up.

You get out what you put in, regardless of how good the instructors are. If you have a seat under your arse and levers to pull to a large part of how you get on is how much time you spend practicing and repeating.

Where are you based and where are they offering the training?
I see flanery plant hire are on the list of providers.
Ive just filled out the form myself as im looking to get some tickets. Ive just booked the A59 cpcs but thats self funded.

North Yorkshire. Have called round 10 companies and recruitment agencies and the ones I was able to speak to said they’d have no work at all for a newbie so doesn’t sound promising!

How many on here have got the GPS for excavators My son rang up an agency and they wanted a GPS ticket from what could make it was 2 hrs and £150
