Hydraulic 46 varies from £300 a drum to over a grand! I normally just use whatever the local tractor dealer has branded up. What do you guys use?

you know my thoughts on engine oil ... Shell Rimula - X, nothing but for decades, or whatever the X has become now - can't recall, but got a couple of 20s here ... don't need drum quantities any more ...
was never cheap, but neither were V8 / 290 Cummins or 6354 Perkies, aside from everything else that got 'fed it'

I’m just about out of engine oil for all varying machines, really need to find one oil which will do everything.. 4 different brands of machine/engine may not work out as simple as i think? I guess over spec on the smaller ones won’t hurt..

In theory what you need to buy for the most modern emissions engine should be ok in the rest provided its within grade range.

I was getting fed up off having so many drums with a wee drop in them that I looked into what all will cover all my plant and I’ve ended up with 205 litre drum of shell Rimula R6 LM
It’s a good cost saving on buying 20L drums and I only need the one drum . Shells tech guys are really helpful as well. They have assured me it will be good for my V6 vw Amarok. I haven’t asked about my old A4 V6 yet but I’m sure it’ll be fine for that as well .

We've been getting 32 grade Hyd. Oil from northern oils now for about 5 years. Probably had approx 2000L and never had an issue.

Cat hydo adv 10, for anything Cat, Shell Tellus for everything else on the development fleet. My Kubota gets an own-brand 46 and slightly more frequent changes. Personally I wouldn’t cut corners on a big hydrostatic machine, or something running balls out all day, but you can get scared into putting premium cost oil in a low or light-use motor. The biggest false economy is skimping on filter and oil changes. When you drop the oil out of the tank, you only change between 20 and 50% of the total system capacity, depending on the machine.

Mind you, it puts the shits up you when it decides to do it next to a stream two hundred yards from a major river.

Fuchs do a good range of products, working at the business end of pumps and motors and not changing hydraulic oil at regular intervals, more regular when running attachments, the oil being changed at 1000 hrs looks a dark gold in the site glass, but when draining into a clear tank it is actually nearly black, probably because the little amount in the site glass rarely moves it doesn’t change colour a great deal, some pump valve plates I have stripped are very scored, and the knock on effect is some loss of pressure and flow.
