Which dumper?

I'm looking for a 3t swivel for a small site I'm building. I've been struggling but found a couple and I know it's hard to tell from adverts, but which would you go for of these 2?



2012 £6k+vat

2015 £6.5k+vat

Both a fair distance from me, I've asked for a video of each. Not really sure what I should be checking as not owned one before.

second one is way better shod (not cheap to re-shoe) and incudes VAT so first'll be about the same price

Main thing to check is the condition of the centre pivot. Big job to replace if it’s way gone, which they often are.

Tip the skip, as it comes to the end of its cycle you will be able to watch the centre pivot and see it the two halves of the dumper move apart lol

Good dumpers. The Kubota engines in them provide plenty of power (better then the equivalent thwaites IMO) and the skips are a decent size. That one looks pretty clean and straight and don't think think £5k is unreasonable at all- well worth a look

I’ve a 2005 thwaites swivel skip and a 2008 terex swivel, the terex much nicer to drive being forward backward no gears easier to get on and off but is bigger, wider and skip higher and just feels chunkier. The twaites is a older one so still got decent engine in with grunt and is very nimble and you feel you could thread it like eye of a needle terex bit more like a supertanker lol

Hired a new thwaites 3 ton swivel last year it was gutless

Aren’t the new new ones literally half the power of the older ones? Mine being a 2018 and still a full power version, not sure when the emissions crap kicked in for them?

Yeah they are. Think a 1.6l powers the new Mecalac/terex dumpers.vs 2.2L Kub in mine. What I like about terex is you can fit at least the actual weight capacity in the skip. I've had 12 ton loads before and I've shifted it in 3 trips. Mines the straight tip but it definitely has the grunt to shift stuff- any less power would be pitiful.
