Which 5-6t Class machine ?

End of the year beginning of next, I plan to buy a machine in the 5-6t class - its going on a 12 -14t hook loader which will be maxed out at 6.5t so if a tilty is going on it I thought it wants to be in the 5.5t range and conventional tail swing or additional counterweight.

Hopefully if there is anything about It will be used low(ish) hours - ideally have dual prop rollers and hyd hitch to put a kinshofer tilty on.......

Going to look out for

JCB 57-C1 @ 5.4t
KX57-4 @ 5.5t hi spec


what else is worth a look in this weight ?

Well I have been using a friend's kx 57 and I think it is great. Been using it to place 1ton Lego blocks and it easily handles them full reach, cross tracks. Also for general digging work it drives nice. Makes my zx50 feel like it is pre historic.

I’ve got a Takeuchi TB260 which is essentially the same spec as the KX-57 hi-spec (ac/2x proportional hydraulics on the joysticks etc) and I like mine. It is slow at tracking (2016 machine) but that has been addressed on the later machines apparently.

To be fair I'm not a fan of the fr's so wouldn't blame you. They are one of those machines which due to the design have too many compromises, unless of course you have a lot of work which suits a "full radius" machine. I wouldn't let it put you off trying a tb260 although they are probably getting nearer to 6t than 5.5t.

I’ve been considering swapping mine and on paper (meaningless in the real world I know) the 260 seems to trump the KX-60 in a few areas (including weight). As far as I know the KX-60 is not much more than a facelifted KX—57 (a Kubota dealer told me that).
What you need to do is convince Mogman to part with his Kamogsu - that will probably come in around your target weight but lift like a 13 tonner!!

Biggest problem you’ll have is actually finding anything used of good quality forsale!

That might be just what it needed to be .... you dont hear anything bad about them so why not build same machine with netflix.
When you were on the KX57 did you notice any problems with tracking at the same time as working ........any issues with the oil sharing ?? on the 8t its
horrendous.

Interesting point ...I had a kx0574 last year on and off for few weeks on a job . Loved it...actually nice than the 8t. BUT ran it with a flail for a day which was frustrating..oil sharing was shite...no tracking just slow slew etc.

I think lots struggle while running a flail but this is just everyday stuff like grading and inching back as you go..........
With the 8t I have .... say you are just already resting on the tracking pedals to creep along and try to lift boom there is absolutely nothing and then when you come off pedals there is a bang and boom comes up in a rush as it gets oil to open circuit.
If you are working boom and stick already and then start to creep along then it deals with it slightly better - i think they were supposed to deal with in the -4a but its the same apparently

We see a good few flails and Kubota I the worst for this.

How does it do oil sharing when your tracking and working does it have the same issues as the 8t ?
