There must be some folk either seriously loosing out or they were making ridiculous profits before..
The rate materials have gone up this year I cannot fathom how on earth some folk are still going...train crash is approaching imo

I 100% agree, I just feel a huge crash and full stop is on the way! The % material increases I have been getting through for January will end most of the householder works for sure!! Or send the builders bust!

it’s an extended hobby for all

I was placing big order of drainage pipe and fittings today . The guy said his suppliers have notified of price rises in November December January and February each month across the board on all materials . He said by Feb it will amount to nearly 40%
I joked he was wanting me to panic but he said he had nothing left to sell me .
I agree crash is coming

Just orderd 3 artic loads of bricks& blocks for upcoming work, merchant said they couldn’t deliver direct to site it all had to come from the merchant yard via own trucks! Told him what nonsense that was, afew phone calls later it was sorted.. no more than afew weeks waiting list! Some real manipulation going off!!

Yeah, consider whether you are really going to make extra money with a larger machine. You can hire them for peanuts. You need to be quoting larger jobs, not day rate. Most guys I know are around £400 a day for a 7.5 tonner, we get that for a 2.7t and it's under half the cost, burns less than half the diesel and doesn't need a lorry.

Not saying don't do it, just saying that bigger most certainly doesn't mean more profitable. Yesterday I went out to a job 45 mins away with the 1.9t and rotating grab. Three beds of small shrubs to come out in a primary school, some of them to be kept rootballed, stacked to one side, and the rest in a skip. Done in an hour and a half, £400 plus VAT. The grab made the money there.

Knowing how vocal you are @doobin on the 8ton and below facebook group, I don't want to under price you in Surrey but you need to let me know each week when you raise your prices because I'm struggling to keep up here

Dave, there's some profiteering going on for sure and if you ask the right questions like you clearly are, its not too hard to break down. But I fear a big crash is coming for sure. Prices cant keep going up at the rate they are, there will become a point where people wont pay.

Something has to give at some point. To be fair demand is high and so the supply chain can't keep up, but i guess its not worth trying to make and supply more as you'll be left with extra staff and equipment you might never need again when it crashes.

Inflation will sort it - mortgage rates will go up, house prices will stabilise/fall, new build bullshit overpriced aspirational houses will stagnate, demand will drop off.
I reckon anyway…

Interest rate rises up to 0.75 in next few months I read. Will be done in 2 or 3 stages

Reckon your not wrong there ....and insulate Britain smackheads will need to go back to work to pay off their skyrocketing energy bills from the increased cost of energy due to pushing ahead with stuff that doesn't work.
