I think it’ll be a bigger issue than that . The guy is 80 and his hobby has been fettling with tractors but he has arthritis now and sadly can’t do it anymore . He’s also got an older fordson super dexta in his shed amongst others . He will definitley have checked the oil. He’s from the east coast though so he’s a canny old bugger and as tight as a ducks backside but I really like him and enjoyed doing his extension . He worked hard all his life .

Another thing that is easily overlooked on older tractors is the hydraulic pump sometimes runs off the PTO so hydraulics only work when it is engaged.

We had an 885 once that wouldn't lift... had no pressure on the tipping pipe ether.
Turned out it was the pump. Wasnt to bad of a thing to do if i remember.

Seem to remember David Browns have a selector (may be rotatory ) on the right as you sit on it to select different hydraulic functions, also a knob that screws in and out to control speed, may be the selector is in the wrong position, or the speed screwed all the way in or out?
Not sure if there was a dump valve somewhere as well.
There`s a strainer filter on the pick up in a bowl under the gear box, I seem to remember having to be cleaned quite regular.

aware of that , what’s this tractor worth though ?

Realistically going to sell for atleast £4k in auction & often see them up for sale at around £5k but doesn’t mean they sell for that. The 550 is a nice little tractor but has its limitation, it is only around 40 hp on the shaft so it would be on its knees cutting grass with anything but the smallest mower.

That sold a while back and I couldn’t get more than 5.5 with the loader iirc. Local dealer to me sold a ratty one with cab for 2700 recently

Did you put it on the forum ? None come up up here and there is a local dealer as well . He seems to sell smaller ones though as he’s predominantly a mower outlet. Let me know if you see anything worth a look

Well I got a tractor.
Pictures are shocking so I will take some more when I get a better look at it .
It was belonged to John Allison the fitter . It had been his fathers for decades and before that apparently worked on forth road bridge. It’s an industrial version of a Ford 3910 . It has wet brakes and 4wd . It’s a 1983 Ford 335 highway utility.
It’s needing a few jobs done to tidy it up and the cab is rotten . If I can’t get a better cab I’m thinking of turning it into a cabless tractor .
First jobs are remove the loader as I don’t need it , new radiator , new exhaust , new door holders , a good service and all oils changed and a look at the wiring . It’s a 3 cyl diesel and I thinks it’s about 50hp so it should run a flail ok .
Anyone had any experience with a Ford 3910?

I want it to cut grass and a digger should be around most of the time to lift anything so it makes it easier to get in about engine without it . not completely set on loosing it yet though
