What stick welder?

Wanting a new stick welder, currently have an old Clark. Mainly for general farm and plant repairs, making gates, welding euro brackets on etc. Probably a budget of around £200, maybe £300 for the right machine. What do people use/recommend?

Whichever brand definitely inverter they are so easy to use over a buzz box
And try to get one that will run off a gennie
I have the rtech 175 amp inverter
It's a Chinese machine but brilliant back up
There customer service is brilliant
And if you purchase over the phone they will usually throw in some freebies if you ask, I got longer leads for free
As they come with tiny leads as do many Chinese machines

have had an Esab Caddy must be going twenty Plus years ...... brilliant tool .... and welds beautifully.. built me VA-r and everything else round here with it ... @Lancs Lad's'll be the latest version

I have been impressed by Jasic welders and rather like it that they aren't pretending to be anything other than Chinese. I'd guess that all of the decent quality budget welders have IGBT's made in the Siemens factory in China.

Why not spend a bit more and get an inverter mig that will also do stick? I rate r tech highly.

Not a bad plan. I went that route but was more than a "bit" more but wanted smig. Rtech were sound to speak to but I wanted The esab features.

Have no experience with mig and neither does the aul boy. We are both confident in our abilities with the stick so just want to stick (pardon the pun) with what we know.

Personal opinion is Kemmpi.... Need to buy another for Chris as he was using the thermal bark but the moisture has killed it.

Kemmpi has had the same abuse and is still strong.

I've got a Jasic inverter TIG and thats good, does stick nicely too, got a little IFL Nuovo Fusion, came from Inverter Fusion, who are just down the road from me, thats a wicked machine for the size, 200a, welds like a dream. Tiny thing compared to other inverter sticks I've used too. Got an R-tech plasma cutter and thats good, but not perfect. Kemmpi and Esab are supposed to be very good too

I run a little ESAB Buddy Arc 145 which was replaced by the Rogue this is a great little welder for me I have also got a Murex181 mig welder which since I have had the buddy I have hardly used the mig at all as the buddy seems to do most jobs which I do and it takes a lot of stick
This was one of the first esab welders built in China

got one for my BIL a few years ago and he's been very pleased with it ....
used to sell a lot of Thermal Arc 250A migs, which in the day were the only true 250 set on 1Ph .... there're quite a few round here .... had a hell of a deal on them at one time (for 10 at a time).
